Food Service Worker – Missouri Division of Youth Services
Join the Division of Youth Services at the State of Missouri to prepare and serve safe, therapeutic, and nutritious meals for youth in our day treatment and residential programs. This second-level food service position receives general supervision and prepares more complex menu items in a large institutional kitchen.
- Prepares major meals in a large institutional kitchen and assists in meal preparation by measuring ingredients, mixing, boiling, frying, and monitoring cooking temperatures.
- Requisition s and obtains supplies and menu items; maintains point of service counts and conducts monthly inventory on the last day of each month.
- Develops menus that comply with nutrition rules and prepares well‑balanced meals.
- Completes all required reports and correspondence in a timely, accurate manner.
- Maintains kitchen safety and sanitation, supervising cleaning of utensils, equipment, and work areas.
- Lifts or carries large portions of food or ingredients and works long hours while standing in a hot kitchen setting.
- Supervises youth and other helpers in food preparation, safety, and sanitation.
- One or more years of experience as a Food Service Assistant with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System, OR 1–2 years of work experience.
- Knowledge of standard kitchen procedures, sanitation guidelines, and the ability to prepare more complex menu items.
- Ability to enter and update information in automated systems, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university in food preparation, dietetics, nutrition, foods and nutrition, or a closely related area may substitute for one year of experience.
