Position: Physician Assistant (Interventional Spine and Pain)

Physician Assistant (Interventional Spine and Pain)

Tanner Clinic has an immediate opening for a Physician Assistant in the Interventional Spine and Pain Department.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct physical exams, assess health status, order and interpret tests, prescribe medications, and treat illnesses including giving injections and suturing wounds.
  • Consult with physicians as needed and refer to physicians for more complicated medical cases or cases that are not a routine part of a PA’s scope of work.
  • Monitor therapies and provide continuity of care.
  • Triage patient calls and evaluate patient problems. Respond to emergencies including use of CPR.
  • Counsel patients/families on preventive health care.
  • Document patient information and care in medical records and may maintain department statistical databases for research purposes.
  • Obtain complete medical history and physical data on patients.
  • Review patient records, interpret and integrate data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in conjunction with the physician or under the direction of a physician.
  • Dictate history and physicals for all hospitalized admissions.
  • Advise patients regarding health and illness prevention; instruct patients and families regarding medications and treatment instructions.
  • Provide patient education.
  • Perform independent evaluations and treatment procedures in emergency situations.
  • Write and refill prescriptions (subject to state laws and PA’s scope of practice).
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s degree and successful completion of an accredited physician assistant program.
  • Experience:

    Four years of health care experience prior to applying to the PA program, plus one year of experience as a PA, preferably in a clinic setting.
  • Licensure:
    National certification from the National Commission on Certification of PA; state PA license required. Current CPR certificate required.
  • Knowledge:
    Medical model and roles of physicians and physician assistants. Familiarity with anatomy, pharmacology, pathophysiology, clinical medicine, and physical diagnosis.
  • Skills:

    Ability to gather and analyze physiological, socioeconomic, and emotional patient data; ability to accurately evaluate patient problems and provide appropriate advice, intervention, or referral; ability to develop and revise patient care plans based on patient status.
  • Abilities:
    Make responsible decisions within scope of PA practice; collaborate effectively with physicians; educate patients, families, and staff; demonstrate eye–hand coordination, full range of motion, and manual dexterity.
