Job Summary

Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center Nuclear Command, Control, and Communications (NC3) Integration Directorate (AFNWC/NC) is seeking one full-time non‑supervisory Acq Demo NH-801-04, General Engineer M) to serve as Lead Engineer for the Strategic Automated Command Control System (SACCS), located at Hill AFB, near Layton UT. This role will help modernize NC3 capabilities in support of strategic deterrence, a top Secretary of Defense priority.

Responsibilities
  • Lead systems engineering and technical functions on a team composed of military, government civilian, A&AS contractors, and Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) personnel.
  • Sustain existing SACCS capability and define a modernized SACCS architecture.
  • Lead the implementation of new network, software, and hardware-based capabilities.
  • Guide program office technical efforts to develop, acquire, and sustain NC3 capabilities that provide the primary means of communication for secure nuclear command and control messages.
  • Interface with senior members of AFNWC, stakeholder PMOs, AFGSC, USSTRATCOM, Navy, NSA, 16th AF, Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), and the Air Staff to achieve PEO & SAE program objectives and support operational users.
  • Conduct Engineering Functional Organize, Train and Equip (OT&T) activities, including recommending personnel actions and recruiting and staffing Engineering positions.
  • Manage assigned personnel as a non‑supervisory team lead.
Skills and Experience
  • Engineering background in communications systems, IP networks, and their theory of operation.
  • Experience with DoD system acquisition, including non‑traditional acquisition processes, waterfall and agile software development processes, major milestone activities, and design reviews.
  • Background in Research & Development, Technology Maturation, Systems Integration, and Test & Evaluation of weapon systems.
  • Expertise in nuclear and environmental testing, flight testing, hardware‑in‑the‑loop (HWIL) and ground testing, instrumentation, telemetry, and integrated systems testing.
  • Experience architecting, deploying, managing, securing, or operating RF, Terrestrial, or SATCOM communications systems.
  • Experience with Modular Open System Approaches and successful implementation of open standards (OMS, SOSA, FACE, etc.).
  • Experience with digital engineering and model‑based systems engineering toolsets.
  • Experience conducting market research, developing request for proposal documentation, source selection, and technical evaluations.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills for engaging with geographically dispersed stakeholders.
  • Experience working with multiple Government, Industry, FFRDC, UARC, and DoD research lab organizations.
  • Knowledge of the mission, roles, functions, and operation of OSD, DoD, HAF, AFOTEC, and related acquisition organizations.
Requirements for the Position
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Must be TS/SCI eligible; the incumbent must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance. Active TS/SCI or TS clearance preferred. Please include current clearance level in your resume.
  • Position is an acquisition role covered by the Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP). The selected candidate must meet, or be capable of meeting, Defense Acquisition Work Improvement Act requirements.
