Family Peer Support Specialist (FPSS) works closely with families who have children and adolescents with complex mental health needs. They offer hope, guidance, advocacy, and camaraderie for parents and caregivers of children and youth receiving services from mental health, substance use, and related systems. Leveraging lived experience parenting a child or youth with challenges along with specialized training, the FPSS supports families through face‑to‑face support groups, phone calls, or individual meetings, linking families to local resources, providing advocacy, and facilitating wrap‑around services.

• Maintain documentation as required by agency standards.
• Other duties and responsibilities as needed.

• Link parents/caregivers and families with systems of care that provide resources, services, and opportunities to improve quality of life.
• Advocate for individuals and families encountering barriers in connecting with systems of care.
• Assist families in gaining natural supports and resources to become independent of agencies.
• Facilitate recovery groups as appropriate.
• Develop working relationships with partner agencies to effectively facilitate referrals and coordination of services.
• Provide individual and family psychoeducation via workshops, presentations, etc.
• Coordinate with other staff and community agencies as needed.
• Participate in regular staff meetings and regularly scheduled supervision.

$19.00 per hour

Full‑time, weekdays with possible evenings. Proposed schedule:

• Monday 8:00 am to 2:00 pm
• Wednesday & Thursday 12:00 pm to 7:00 pm

• FPSS certification required (parent or other family member of a child or youth who has struggled with a serious emotional disturbance and has received mental health and/or substance use treatment and support services).
• Experience working with youth/young adults and families.

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Bachelor's degree in related field highly preferred but not required.

• Certified as a Family Peer Support Specialist (FPSS) by the Office of Substance Use and Mental Health.
• FPSS certification must be completed within 6 months after hire.
• Certified as a Behavioral Health Case Manager (BHCM) with the Utah Department of Health and Human Services within first 30 days of employment.

• Obtain and maintain First Aid and CPR certification within 30 days of employment.
• Complete behavior management training (Welle) within 30 days of employment.
• Complete all required training assigned to the FPSS position by defined deadlines.

• At least 18 years old.
• Successfully pass pre‑employment criminal background check and drug screening.
• Reliable transportation and valid driver's license.
• Clean driving record required.
• Knowledge of community resources.
• Ability to motivate and engage families.
• General understanding of mental illness and substance use disorders.
• Good organizational and practice management skills.
• Ability to utilize own lived experience while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
• Ability to work independently and effectively.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff and community agencies.
• Flexibility in days and hours available for scheduled work, including evenings and weekends.
• Spanish speaking is a bonus.

Indoor and outdoor settings, various employment settings, other programs of DBH, and meetings with other agencies located in the community.
