Bakery/Deli Clerk – Kroger

Job Description

Assist the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals, monitoring quality assurance standards, and implementing the Customer 1st strategy to deliver excellent customer service. Demonstrate Kroger’s core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare items per customer requests using proper bakery equipment.
  • Offer product samples to help customers discover new items.
  • Inform customers of bakery and/or deli specials.
  • Provide fresh products with accurate portion sizes to prevent shrink.
  • Recommend deli or bakery items to ensure customers receive desired products.
  • Use all equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, slicers, ovens, fryer, steamer, robot coupe, etc., according to company guidelines.
  • Prepare foods according to temperature logs and follow cooking instructions.
  • Measure, prepare, and mix ingredients per recipe using kitchen utensils and equipment.
  • Package, label, and inventory merchandise appropriately.
  • Check product quality for freshness and review sell‑by dates, taking appropriate action.
  • Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
  • Report product ordering or shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
  • Understand the store layout to locate products when requested by customers.
  • Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads.
  • Maintain knowledge of products and respond to questions and make suggestions.
  • Monitor inventory and note discrepancies.
  • Maintain proper temperatures in cases and coolers and keep temperature logs.
  • Promote trust and respect among associates.
  • Create a welcoming environment for customers, answering product questions at the department and throughout the store.
  • Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Reinforce safety programs by following procedures, identifying unsafe conditions, and notifying management.
  • Practice preventive maintenance by properly inspecting equipment and reporting repair needs.
  • Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
  • Work cooperatively in a high‑paced and sometimes stressful environment.
  • Manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational, and cooperative manner.
  • Act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.
  • Follow directions and seek assistance when necessary to resolve issues.
  • Provide support to minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
  • Perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Qualifications
  • Customer Service skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Knowledge of basic math.
  • Ability to obtain a current food handler permit once employed.
Desired Experience
  • Customer Service experience.
  • Bakery or Deli experience is helpful.
  • Retail experience.
