Hours:

Up to 19.99 hours per week, day shift on weekdays, possibly Saturdays if preferred. No benefits.

Minimum Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technology program
  • Associates of Applied Science (or equivalent)
  • 0+ years of experience
Licenses, Registrations or Certifications
  • American Registry for Radiology Technologist (ARRT‑N) or NMTCB Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT)
  • Texas Medical Board certification (MRT)
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
Job Description

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist I position works independently to complete a variety of nuclear medicine procedures, including diagnostic and therapeutic exams of moderate complexity. This role provides direct assistance to physicians during all diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, delivers exceptional patient care, and adheres to nuclear medicine exam standards and guidelines established by governing agencies to ensure optimal patient safety and customer service.

  • Utilize effective verbal, non‑verbal, and written communication.
  • Proactively respond to patient needs.
  • Optimize protocols for better patient care, image quality, and experience.
  • Assist physicians during diagnostic procedures, including sterile technique.
  • Use AIDET incorporating Key Words and MANAGE UP techniques when speaking to patients and families.
  • Perform diagnostic nuclear medicine procedures of moderate complexity.
  • Practice radiation safety and ALARA principles.
  • Follow safety standards and conduct all imaging procedures accordingly.
  • Maintain proper sterile techniques for procedures.
  • Comply with job role, department, and hospital safety standards, practices, and policies.
  • Participate in WASTE walks and support department LEAN projects.
  • Report near misses and input errors promptly into the hospital patient safety reporting system.
  • Perform hot lab and imaging equipment quality control (QC) at required frequencies; report malfunctions and manage preventive maintenance.
  • Utilize critical‑thinking skills to observe and address patient reactions or potential outcomes.
  • Provide accurate and complete documentation of patient procedures and enter charges at the time of service delivery.
  • Use resources efficiently; avoid waste of supplies.
  • Ensure accurate personal timecards and approve them timely.
  • Participate in department projects or shared governance activities.
  • Seek opportunities to expand learning beyond baseline competencies.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrate the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job.
  • Possess sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, physicians, families, and co‑workers.
  • Have basic computer knowledge; operate multiple computer systems.
  • Exhibit strong interpersonal and team‑player skills with all levels of the healthcare team.
  • Adapt to multiple ongoing priorities with minimal supervision.
Working Environment / Equipment
  • Wear scrubs.
  • Equipment used:
    Nuclear Medicine Units/PET, hot lab equipment, Electronic Health Record, PACS.
  • May be asked to travel to other UTMB campuses.
  • Required to participate in call, weekend, holiday, and disaster team rotations.
  • May be exposed to occupational hazards, including blood borne pathogens and radiation.
  • Must be able to push/pull a minimum of 50 pounds, walk long distances, and stand continuously for 60 minutes.
