Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Groundskeeper
Performs entry‑level work including manual and technical labor for the construction, operation, and maintenance of greens, tee boxes, fairways, cart paths, infrastructure at the Golf Course, detention ponds, and irrigation, signage and drainage systems. Generally, this position uses routine skills and works under moderate supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
- Operate heavy mowing equipment such as fairway rough mowers and tractors.
- Operate a variety of mowing equipment such as a greens mower, tees mower, push mower, edger, weed eater, blower, irrigation applicator, maintenance vehicle, and other miscellaneous equipment used in the upkeep of the golf course.
- Implement and maintain any and all policies and procedures as directed Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, and General Manager.
- Perform equipment cleaning and preventative maintenance on mowers and assorted equipment.
- Pick up debris, trash, limbs, rock, and any other debris to preserve course conditions and appearance.
- Ascertain proper protocol and techniques for mowing, trimming and other maintenance procedures. Continuously obtain further education for these protocols from the Assistant Golf Course Superintendent.
- Fill out pertinent forms as required by the department on a timely basis. These forms may be necessary for workflow processes, preventative maintenance, or perhaps capturing informational data. Examples of forms may include equipment logs, fuel usage, preventative maintenance schedules, and MSDS manuals. Must adhere to the departmental recordkeeping policy.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized working environment.
- Assist in irrigation repairs, special projects, and other repairs on the course.
- Fertilize and apply chemicals to appropriate landscape and area(s) under the supervision of the licensed applicator.
- Maintain a professional image at all times.
- Perform other miscellaneous maintenance duties to the golf course as assigned.
- Responsible for returning equipment to its designated location.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- High School degree or equivalent.
- A minimum of three months of experience in landscape maintenance.
- Ability to occasionally work hours other than the regular day time schedule such as weekends and evenings.
- Valid driver's license from Texas or any other US state (Approximately 10% driving time in a City vehicle.)
- Six months or more of experience in landscape maintenance.
- Experience working in a similar position at a Golf Course.
- Must be knowledgeable of turfgrass maintenance and able to operate heavy/light mowing equipment, repair irrigation systems, and have basic trouble shooting skills on mowing equipment failures.
- Ability to speak, read, and write in English.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to follow detailed verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to communicate with other employees and the general public in a courteous and diplomatic manner.
- Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
- Ability to work hours other than the regular day time schedules such as on‑call, or emergency response situations.
- When requested, must be able to wear personal protective equipment, steel‑toed leather or composite‑toed boots, gloves, eye protection, head protection, safety vest, and ear protection.
- Workers must be in compliance with safety procedures and usage of safety equipment.
- Skill in operating assigned equipment tools and vehicles safely.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle and feel items, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, talk, and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to SO pounds.
WorkingEnvironment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
