The Golf Course Assistant Mechanic supports the Golf Course Mechanic in the preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of all golf course equipment, including gasoline, diesel, and electric powered machinery, utility vehicles, golf carts, and any associated tools and equipment. This role ensures equipment operates safely and efficiently to support daily golf course operations and maintenance schedules.

  • Safely and effectively operate all golf course maintenance equipment such as mowers, utility vehicles, tractors, power tools, golf carts and related equipment.
  • Assist with the daily maintenance tasks and repair activities associated with the golf course playing surfaces to include but not limited to tees, fairways, greens, roughs and native areas. This includes but is not limited too mowing, edging, material handling, weed control, cleaning and restocking on course restrooms, etc.
  • Assist with scheduling, planning and executing preventive maintenance for all golf course maintenance equipment and tools.
  • Assist with record keeping and information processing to gather and maintain data related to maintenance operations such as equipment records, purchase orders, budgets, maintenance activities, fuel logs, maintenance and repair histories, etc.
  • Assist with equipment, tool and supply inventory.
  • Assist with equipment purchases, service orders and supply requisitions.
  • Assist with irrigation system repairs, special projects, and other activities on the course as assigned.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and appearance at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required

Education and Experience
  • A high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of one year of experience in the maintenance and repair of common vehicle equipment to include planning and conducting basic preventive maintenance.
Required Certificates and Licenses
  • Texas Class C driver’s license or equivalent from any U.S. State.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associates degree in a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Two or more years of related experience.
  • Experience working for a government entity such as a City, County, or a State agency.
  • Must be knowledgeable in auto mechanics and the operation and repair of heavy, medium duty and light equipment, repair hydraulic systems, diesel and gasoline engines, diagnose problems and repair machinery, work with a variety of hand and power tools, perform paint and body work on machinery. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to read and interpret wiring circuit diagrams.
  • Must have the ability to follow detailed verbal and written instructions.
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Must have the ability to communicate with other employees and the general public in a courteous and diplomatic manner.
  • Must be skilled in prioritizing and executing multiple tasks.
  • Must be able to apply basic problem‑solving skills to analyze situations and adopt quick, effective, and reasonable courses of action.
  • Must be able to follow safety procedures and use safety equipment to ensure personal, public, and personnel safety.
  • Must be able to implement and maintain all policies and procedures as directed by the Superintendent and General Manager.
  • Must possess or be able to learn the basic to intermediate skills needed for the use of computers, related software applications and office equipment.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with City employees, the public, elected officials, boards and commissions.

Ability to work early mornings, afternoons, evenings, and late-night shifts on weekdays, weekends, holidays and overtime as required.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, talk, and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to lift or move 25 lbs. Working Environment
