Responsibilities
  • Operate heavy equipment used in the maintenance and construction of roads and bridges, such as compactors, front‑end loaders, farm tractors, backhoes, heavy dump trucks, tandem trucks, tractor trailers, and other motorized equipment.
  • Patching roads, installing culverts, cutting and hauling brush, mowing roadsides, and repairing and replacing road signs.
  • Perform traffic control duties including flagging, setting barricades and cones, directing traffic at construction sites, and on‑call during storms and other weather‑related issues.
  • Load all equipment and tools necessary to perform off‑site jobs; drive diesel and non‑diesel trucks to haul gravel, dirt, and asphalt as required.
  • Execute routine preventative maintenance, perform minor repairs, operate equipment inspections to ensure proper function, wash and clean equipment, fuel equipment, and check for damage before and after use.
  • Carry out flood control duties as required and remove trash and debris from county right of way, hauling refuse to specified deposit locations.
  • Attach road signs to posts using hand and power tools; dig holes, set signs with cement.
  • Train other employees in the use of equipment, as time and workload permits.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications

High School diploma or GED and at least two years of experience in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.

Must possess a Class B Commercial Driver’s License issued by the State of Texas.

Driver’s License with “N” endorsement issued by the State of Texas is required within 3 months of employment.

Class A Commercial Driver’s License with “N” endorsement preferred.

Regular and punctual attendance is required.
