Principal Consultant - Ammonia & Derivatives
Location:

Position Summary:
The Principal Consultant will operate as a key member of K Consulting International, delivering technically robust and commercially informed consulting assignments across the ammonia and associated derivatives sectors. The role includes strategy, feasibility, concept development, Pre‑FEED/FEED, due diligence, proposal preparation, and client engagement.
- Act as a Principal Engineer on ammonia and derivative studies and projects, including:
- Import and export terminals
- Storage and handling systems
- Marine, road and rail loading/unloading systems
- Associated facility operations supporting licensors (ammonia, fertiliser, urea production packages)
- Lead or provide senior technical oversight for:
- Feasibility, concept and Pre‑FEED studies
- Technical and economic evaluations
- Technology assessment and selection
- Integration of support facilities (ammonia, fertiliser, urea & petrochemicals production infrastructure)
- Due diligence and owners engineering reviews
- Development and review of high‑quality technical deliverables (reports, presentations, process models)
- Application of engineering judgment to identify risks, opportunities, cost drivers, and performance sensitivities
- Act as a trusted technical advisor to clients, engaging effectively at a technical level and supporting discussions on project strategy, investment readiness, execution approaches, and market positioning.
- Support K Consulting’s growth strategy through proposal and tender preparation, technical inputs to bids, and participation in client meetings and workshops.
- Contribute to thought leadership, market positioning, and internal capability development within ammonia and derivative services.
- Mentor and guide less‑experienced engineers and consultants; develop internal methodologies, tools, and best practices; collaborate across K ’s global organisation; prepare and deliver conference papers and client presentations at industry events.
- Depth of experience in ammonia, derivatives, fertiliser, urea, and related markets including commercial drivers.
- Knowledge of associated facility operations, design considerations, and efficiency improvement.
- Process design understanding and feasibility/configuration studies for ammonia and derivatives infrastructure projects.
- Understanding of process safety and applicable regulations for ammonia facilities.
- Knowledge of major licensors and technology providers.
- Project execution strategies and cash‑flow model analysis.
- Technical due diligence and lender’s engineer support.
- Degree (BEng/MEng or equivalent) in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering or related discipline.
- Relevant years of experience in engineering consultancy, project development, or operating company roles.
- Demonstrable experience in ammonia and its derivatives, fertiliser, urea, or gas processing projects, including:
- Ammonia production facilities
- Storage, loading and unloading systems
- Treatment systems (dehydration, acid gas removal, etc.)
- Strong experience supporting feasibility, concept and Pre‑FEED studies.
- Preferred: prior involvement in technical due diligence or lender’s engineer roles.
- Proven ability to work independently, manage multiple assignments, and deliver high‑quality outputs on tight schedules.
- Ability to work within a ‘sell‑do’ consulting model.
- Strong self‑starter with commercial awareness.
- Front‑end consulting skills: scoping, selling, delivery.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; concise reports and presentations for all client levels.
- Confidence to work across client organisations from Board to site.
- Flexibility and adaptability to evolving client needs.
- Contribution to proposal preparation, execution planning, budgeting; identification of new opportunities and leads.
- Support a continuous improvement culture: development of processes, tools, and methodologies.
- Based in Leatherhead office (other locations considered).
- Primary degree in Chemical Engineering.
- Knowledge of process simulation (e.g., Hysys, Uni Sim, Aspen Plus) is a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Positive, flexible, collaborative attitude.
- Strong cultural awareness and diplomacy when working with clients, partners, vendors, and internal teams.
- Willingness to accommodate occasional workload peaks.
- Relevant higher degree (PhD, MBA) is a plus.
- Prior experience with an industry company, licensor, or technical consultancy is a strong advantage.
- Fluent English required; additional languages beneficial.
