- Structured Learning - School Year role at USD 207 Fort Leavenworth School District.
Purpose: Para Educators assist in supporting students, teachers, and administrators in creating a positive learning environment that facilitates personal, social, and intellectual development of students with disabilities.
Reports to: Building Principal and Supervising Special Education Teacher
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Hourly ($21.00 - $37.17 per hour) with a 7.5-hour workday. Hourly wage depends on years of experience in a similar K-12 role.
Required Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent
- Basic computer skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the District Office (after an employment offer is made)
- Associates Degree or higher
- Experience working with students with disabilities
- Facilitate and support a positive learning environment, responding to individual educational, social, and behavioral needs of students with disabilities
- Communicate and work effectively with members of the school district and community
- Adapt to changes and frequent interruptions, including new duties, assignments, and student caseloads
- Operate classroom equipment appropriately
- Observe and follow all school district policies (including health and safety policies)
- Support the district's vision, mission, and goals
- Maintain regular and consistent attendance
- Complete other duties as assigned
- Prepare and present classroom activities under the supervision of a licensed teacher
- Work with individual and small groups of students to reinforce curriculum material and complete assignments
- Assist students with behavioral challenges and medical needs as required
- Guide students in independent study, enrichment, or remedial work
- Assist with non-instructional classroom duties (snack, toileting, clothing routines, escorting, etc.)
- Support students’ individual needs throughout the school setting (lunch, recess, sports)
- Maintain confidentiality of student and personnel records
- Respond to information requests in a cooperative, courteous, and timely manner
- Perform clerical duties as needed, including data entry
- Perform other tasks and responsibilities as directed by the principal or teacher
- Sit and stand for extended periods
- Bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height
- Ability to see and read a computer screen and/or printed materials
- Hearing and speaking clearly in classroom environments
At-will employment. Salary and work schedule as determined by the Board.
