Simulation Team Terrain Database Engineer Job Summary
This position is a full‑time exempt salary position supporting the ARNG Mission Command Training Support Program (MCTSP). The SST Terrain Database Engineer creates digital terrain in support of live, virtual, and constructive simulation applications specifically for ARNG MTC current mission for the following JLCCTC Federates: WARSIM, BE Server, AARS, MUSE/UAS. Creates digital terrain for US Army Mission Command Information Systems.
Duties / Responsibilities- Designs and generates new digital terrain, edits digital terrain, and manages terrain databases for all models and Federates within the JLVC, JLCCTC, LVC-G.
- Processes mosaic large aerial imagery datasets.
- Develops and analyzes topographic and thematic map data in support of training and operational missions.
- Conducts configuration management of the terrain production tools.
- Maintains historical terrain, imagery, map, texture and data sets.
- Collaborates with other terrain laboratories as required to include, but not limited to, National Simulation Center TPO-C, Deputy Chief of Staff, Engineer (DSCENG), and National Geospatial‑Intelligence Agency (NGA); establishing working relationships and refining products.
- Operates (as directed) a JLCCTC Federate during a CPX; enabling simultaneous CPX execution.
- Supports JLCCTC CPX operations as needed, such as WARSIM Battle Station Workstation instruction and Over the Shoulder (OTS) support to LOCOM cells during CPXs.
Secret Security Clearance required for this position.
Required Skills & Certifications- Minimum of eight (8) years’ experience as a GIS (Geographic Information System) subject matter expert (SME).
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in utilizing a combination of COTS and GOTS products including all of the following applications: ERDAS IMAGINE, ESRI ArcGIS, Global Mapper, Adobe Photoshop, JLCCTC STT (Site Terrain Tool).
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in technical computer operations and ability to learn JLCCTC Federate operations.
- BS degree in Geographic Information Science and Technology; may be waived if candidate possesses 12 years of experience in the GIS field.
- Certified GIS Professional; example is membership in GIS Certification Institute (GISCI).
