Job Description for the Occupational Therapist role: evaluates and provides direct student services and consultative services to staff/parents for students eligible for special education evaluations/services.

• Conduct Occupational Therapy screenings according to established state and federal professional standards and procedures.
• Write comprehensive diagnostic evaluations according to established state and federal professional standards and procedures.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team conferences and planning sessions to meet the continuing needs of identified students or those at risk.
• Develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for identified students.
• Provide Occupational Therapy services using a variety of service delivery models within a collaborative team to address the fine motor needs of the student.
• Complete documentation through progress notes and quarterly reports that specify student progress on IEP goals and objectives.
• Work collaboratively with teachers and parents to ensure a unified approach to school-related issues.
• Provide training to teachers, parents, instructional assistants, and other related service personnel to support a child’s IEP.
• Supervise Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTA).
• Serve on district, school, or Occupational Therapy staff committees as appropriate.
• Proactively schedule parent conferences/visits.
• Participate in the general education SIT process.
• Willingness to travel locally using own transportation (mileage reimbursed).
• Maintain regular attendance.
• Other duties as assigned by administration.

• Valid Kansas Occupational Therapist License by the Kansas Board of Healing Arts.
• Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited college/university.
• Possession of a valid Kansas driver’s license.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local legislation, regulations, policies, and procedures that mandate and guide occupational therapy practices.
• Ability to interpret evaluation data and write comprehensive reports.
• Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate respectfully and compassionately to a child and their family.
• Ability to document in accordance with professional standards and state and local guidelines.
• High level of professionalism and decorum.
• Highly organized and detail-oriented.
• Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the District Office (after an employment offer is made).
• Desire to continue career improvement by enhancing skills and job performance.

• Experience as an Occupational Therapist in a school setting.
