Saint John Hospital in Leavenworth, KS seeks an Operating Room Technologist (OR Tech) to work on a per diem basis, assisting in surgical procedures to ensure a safe and efficient operating environment.
OverviewAs a key member of the surgical team, you will prepare the OR, maintain sterility, and support surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nurses throughout procedures, ensuring surgeries run smoothly and safely.

- Prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments, sterilizing equipment, and arranging necessary supplies such as surgical drapes, sponges, and gowns.
- Ensure all equipment functions properly before the surgery begins, including surgical lights, suction machines, and monitoring devices.
- Assist with preparing and draping the surgical site on the patient to maintain a sterile field, helping prevent infections.
- Hand instruments, sponges, and other supplies to surgeons and nurses as needed throughout the procedure, knowing the functions of each tool and anticipating the surgeon’s needs.
- Monitor the sterile field and ensure it remains uncompromised, replacing or informing the team if contamination occurs.
- Count all instruments, sponges, and other materials before and after surgery.
- Reset the operating room after surgery, ensuring it is stocked and organized for the next procedure, following strict protocols for safety and hygiene.
- Experience in Ophthalmology, Pain Management, Endoscopy, and Urology is preferred.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Current BLS certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted) upon hire and ongoing maintenance.
- Experience scrubbing minor and major procedures in various surgical specialties.
- Graduation from an ORT training program within six months of hire or on-the-job training with a minimum of two years experience in a surgical setting.
