Description:
The Registered Nurse (RN) plans and provides comprehensive nursing care.
This includes executing orders from licensed independent providers.
Dispensing and administering medications is a key responsibility.
Assisting licensed independent providers in examinations and treatment of patients is essential.
The RN applies nursing and supervisory techniques in the care and treatment of residents.
Technical and clinical procedures will be performed within the scope of education and licensure.
Nursing skills will be applied in the area and treatment of residents.
The RN will attend sick calls with the physician to see residents.
A list of residents to be examined will be prepared.
Preparation of examining rooms and equipment is required.
Operating pill call, dispensing medication, and documentation as required is essential.
The RN will call licensed independent providers for medication and treatment orders.
Emergency procedures will be performed as needed.
Coordination of professional medical services will be assisted.
Monitoring of inmate/resident hospitalizations for early releases will be conducted.
Guidance, supervision, and monitoring of nursing care provided by staff are key responsibilities.
A good working relationship with facility staff and outside provider agencies is necessary.
Decisions will utilize established policies and sound independent judgment.
Regular evaluations of medical services will be conducted to prevent inappropriate use.
Confidentiality of all medical records must be maintained.
Assistance with the review of medical files will be provided.
All potential catastrophic illnesses will be closely monitored.
Audits of pharmacy use for adherence to formulary will be conducted.
Compliance with applicable pharmacy laws is required.
Observation and recording of resident behavior must be conducted.
Inspection of medical units for contraband items will be necessary.
Health counseling and health education on an individual or group basis will be provided.
Assistance with maintaining standard reports and logs using appropriate grammar is essential.
Reading, analyzing, and interpreting medical and technical procedures and documents is required.
Processing and responding to lawsuits will be part of the duties.
Facilitation of accreditation of the medical program will be needed.
Preparation and dissemination of safety and accident reports are required.
Appropriate action in cases of serious incidents and emergencies will be taken.
