Culinary Camp Instructor
Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City

Description
As the Culinary Camp Chef, you will create a curriculum, develop recipes, and lead culinary instruction each week of a camp program for youth in grades 3‑6. The role requires safe food handling practices and adherence to Kosher guidelines.

Schedule

25–30 hours per week, June 8 – July 31. Plus a week of orientation, May 26‑29. Primarily morning hours M‑F (8:15 am‑1 pm). Campers are in session from 9‑12 daily, with additional prep, clean‑up, and shopping duties.

Essential Functions
  • Supervise, plan, and implement the Culinary Camp program; support and supervise assigned staff.
  • Ensure kitchen and equipment are cleaned after use.
  • Determine needed food, supplies, and equipment; procure them in advance.
  • Teach cooking and baking skills, enabling full youth participation from prep to cleanup.
  • Coordinate the morning schedule, skill sessions, cleanup, and packaging of foods for take‑home distribution.
Requirements
  • Proven culinary skills, including cooking and baking, with knowledge of safe food handling.
  • Preferred education and experience in teaching culinary skills.
  • Preferred experience working with children in a culinary teaching setting.
  • Ability to plan, execute, and manage a culinary camp program for 3rd‑6th graders.
  • Capability to follow Kosher food guidelines under Vaad rules (on‑the‑job training provided).
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience is helpful.
Physical Requirements
  • Able to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Able to work with children who have diverse needs and abilities.
