Senior Electrical Engineer – Leawood, Kansas

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead projects through all phases: feasibility reports, building assessments, concept and basis of design reports, and detailed design and documentation.
  • Assess project requirements, break projects into tasks, and collaborate with the project manager on scope, budget, and staffing.
  • Write scope of work for designs after client meetings.
  • Prepare engineering studies and schematic designs for new systems.
  • Review and evaluate operation of existing systems.
  • Work with code officials and other professionals on building code interpretations or exceptions.
  • Assign and review the work of the project design team.
  • Check progress, produce markups to be incorporated in drawings.
  • Communicate with clients and alert the project manager to scope changes or additional services.
  • Review contractor applications for payment and understand the construction process thoroughly.
  • Coordinate all aspects of project documentation internally and with clients and external designers.
  • Perform calculations: service size, short‑circuit, arc‑flash studies, power system load studies, and Neher‑McGrath buried conduit sizing.
  • Prepare or review construction budgets based on experience and scope.
  • Promote use and development of company design and production standards.
  • Assist in education and development of design staff, acting as a resource for design questions.
  • Perform additional tasks or special projects as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • 10–12 years of engineering/design experience in building design (e.g., power distribution, standby power systems, life‑safety systems).
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an accredited four‑year college or university.
  • Expertise in engineering design programs and CAD (AutoCAD/Revit).
  • Thorough knowledge of electrical system design and applicable codes.
  • Expertise in electrical engineering calculations (SKM, Easy Power, AmpCALC, etc.).
  • Experience with medium voltage systems, electrical hazardous classified areas, and telecommunications systems.
  • 4 years of experience overseeing engineers and designers on project teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Physical Demands
  • Stand, sit, and walk for prolonged periods.
  • Stoops, kneels, crouches, and crawls as required.
  • Lift and move objects up to 25 pounds.
  • Climb ladders as necessary.
Work Environment
  • Work both indoor and outdoor environments, with varying conditions.
  • Adhere to strict cleanroom gowning protocols.
Travel
  • 5–20% travel, or as required by the assigned project.
  • May be assigned to a client site for extended periods.
  • Overnight travel or staying in the client city possible.
  • Access to reliable transportation required.
  • Travel and commute on a daily or routine basis possible.
Safety
  • Safety‑sensitive position.
  • Field work at client sites in construction, process, packaging, manufacturing, research, or other non‑administrative areas.
