THE CITY OF LEAWOOD, KANSAS is looking for a
Right-of-Way Technician

As a Right-of-Way Technician with the City of Leawood, you are an integral part of making a difference in the lives of those here and in surrounding communities. You play a critical role in ensuring public safety, supporting development, and preserving infrastructure. You will also assist with different projects, including the upcoming City-wide LED streetlight conversion and many more.

Your work responsibilities
  • Conducting initial inspections of permitted utility work within the Right-Of-Way, including but not limited to driveways, sidewalks, and back-of-curb installations.
  • Providing streetlight and fiber locates on the city-owned system; working with One Call locating service to ensure quality locates of the City's streetlight, traffic signal systems and fiber optic network.
  • Conducting inspections of right-of-way construction and restoration by utility companies and their subcontractors to ensure compliance with City ordinance standards.
  • Verifying required right-of-way permits have been obtained, verifying project information, including contractor information, and ensuring proper restoration of right-of-way surrounding work areas.
Minimum Requirements

Two (2) years of experience in the municipal or utility service industry or equivalent experience. An associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in Construction Technology or Engineering would be equivalent to two (2) years of experience.

Certifications and Trainings

Required to have or be able to achieve within the time frame determined by the Director of Public Works include ABC’s of BMPs, Erosion and Sediment Control Done Right, and KDOT’s Inspection Course for Basic Structures, Asphalt, and Concrete Paving.

Preferred Requirements

Experience in a Right-of-Way Technician role at a municipality or public works.

Starting rate of pay

Starting rate of pay: $23.85 - $29.82 / hour, DOQ
