Medical Assistant (Ophthalmic Technician)

Travel is required to our other offices within about a 45‑minute radius.

• Full Time
• Monday‑Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

• Facilitate patient flow.
• Assist the doctor in preliminary testing.
• Verify medical and vision insurances.
• Effectively communicate with patients, doctors, and managers.
• Answer inquiries through phone, email, and in‑person requests.
• Provide exceptional customer service during every patient encounter.
• Display a professional attitude, greet patients promptly, and thank them when they leave.
• Practice urgency with patient, doctor, and schedule time.
• Comply with all company policies and procedures including HIPAA.
• Verify patient information by interview.
• Record medical history, current medications and confirm purpose of visit.
• Record all data in the patient’s Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
• Check condition of patient’s eyes by observing pupils, muscles, visual acuity, and extraocular movements.
• Perform diagnostic tests: dilation, refraction, intraocular pressure, visual fields, OCT, GDX, IOL master, auto refractor, topography.
• Demonstrate knowledge of eye anatomy, diseases, symptoms and ocular medications.
• Perform general office duties and cleaning as assigned.

• High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.
• Favorable result on Background Check.

• Reliable transportation for multiple work locations with minimal notice.

• Minimum required:
  High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum required:
  One year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination.

• Preferred:
  Current Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) certification, but not required.

• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook.

• Frequent walking (75%), sitting (50%), standing (50%).
• Regular bending, stooping, reaching (25‑50%).
• Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull items up to 25 lb.
• Strong fine motor skills and full use of hands are essential.
• Visual and auditory acuity, including color, depth, peripheral vision, and focus, required 100% of the time.
• Occasional driving or climbing may be necessary.
