Lilly is currently building an advanced manufacturing facility for production of advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs) in Lebanon, IN. This startup greenfield site will support current and future products, including Gene Therapies. The Associate Director will help build the processes and facility to enable successful GMP manufacturing operations and will lead the process control engineering team.

The Associate Director is responsible for supervising process control engineers and technicians that support daily operations. The role focuses on ensuring reliable, compliant control applications and systems in GMP manufacturing, driving productivity, and developing employees. In the project delivery and startup phases (expected 2026‑2027), leadership will be dynamic and collaborative, supporting project delivery, organization building, and culture development.

Key Objectives / Deliverables Administrative Leadership
  • Supervise and coach the process control team, including performance reviews and development plans.
  • Handle staffing, recruiting, resource planning, and succession planning.
  • Coordinate process control work and manage financial performance to meet targets.
  • Develop and implement the Process Control Engineering Business Plan.
Operational Excellence
  • Commit to environmental, health, and safety, including Process Safety Management.
  • Track and report key performance indicators of functional performance.
  • Ensure team compliance with GMP and regulatory standards.
Organizational Capability
  • Set and reinforce automation standards with consultants.
  • Ensure engineers focus on critical assignments with monitoring and reporting.
  • Participate actively in flow leadership and management sub‑teams.
Basic Requirements
  • Minimum B.S. in Engineering (preferably Electrical Engineering).
  • 5+ years of experience in Process Control and Automation Engineering, preferably in Gene Therapies or API manufacturing.
Additional Preferences
  • Demonstrated teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong technical depth and rigor for departmental deliverables.
  • Experience building organizational models through recruiting and retention.
  • Independent decision-making with effective networking.
  • Team-oriented leadership within management teams.
  • Professional Engineer licensure is encouraged but not required.

Actual compensation will depend on education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is $123,000 – $180,400 per year. Full‑time employees are also eligible for a company bonus and a comprehensive benefits package that includes 401(k), pension, medical, dental, vision, prescription drug benefits, flexible spending accounts, life insurance, leave of absence, and well‑being programs.
