The Critical Care Unit (CCU) at Witham Hospital is a 16-bed unit primarily focused on step-down and progressive care for patients requiring close monitoring and specialized treatment. Our patient population includes individuals with cardiac issues, pre/post catheterization care, atrial fibrillation conversions, respiratory failure, diabetic keto acidosis (DKA), sepsis, complex post-surgical needs, cerebrovascular accidents, and those requiring management of chest tubes. We also care for oncology patients and those on suicide precautions, as well as individuals experiencing alcohol or drug overdoses.
While most patients in our unit are in a step-down status, we also accommodate critical care patients on ventilators or intravenous drips. Our team consists entirely of Registered Nurses with Patient Care Technicians available during day shifts on weekdays. We maintain a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2-3, ensuring personalized, high-quality care for each patient.
