This hybrid position supports the Department of Epidemiology at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth in conducting rigorously constructed research and applying state‑of‑the‑art methods and technologies to advance epidemiology and impact human health and disease. In collaboration with project leaders, the assistant will abstract data from prenatal, delivery and infant medical records for a large National Institute of Health (NIH) funded Environmental Influences on Children’s Health Outcome (ECHO) birth cohort study.
PositionPurpose
Support the Department of Epidemiology at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth by abstracting data from prenatal, delivery and infant medical records for the NIH funded ECHO birth cohort study, advancing epidemiology and human health through rigorous research.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in health or social sciences or equivalent education and experience.
- One to two years’ experience in research or a medical/clinical environment.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology; maternal and child health knowledge is helpful.
- Knowledge of research methodology, protocols and data collection methods.
- Ability to implement research and data collection protocols.
- Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills for effective interaction with medical and administrative staff at study sites.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate a complex research project with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated independence and responsibility for ensuring timely completion of project activities.
- Meticulous attention to detail and confidentiality.
- Proficiency with REDCap, Microsoft Suite and other web‑based applications.
- Knowledge of HIPAA and patient privacy regulations.
- Knowledge of regulations related to the protection of human subjects and informed consent.
- Must complete educational requirements for Dartmouth Committee on the Protection of Human Subjects (IRB) upon hire.
- Master’s degree in health or social sciences or equivalent education and experience.
- Conduct medical record reviews according to study protocols.
- Contact medical clinics to obtain records for consented participants.
- Maintain relationships with medical and administrative staff to coordinate record reviews.
- Enter accurate data into secure study databases in a timely manner.
- Adhere to strict patient confidentiality requirements.
- Communicate project status to the study team regularly.
- Act as a clinical resource for other staff on record reviews.
- Maintain database for participant consent status and record review status.
- Ensure successful data collection and management.
- Maintain confidentiality and data integrity.
- Other study tasks as needed.
- Demonstrate professionalism and collegiality in all interactions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
