Dartmouth-Hitchcock Pharmacy in Lebanon, NH seeks a Pharmacist Supervisor for Inpatient Operations and Distributive Services. This position supports the Medication Systems and Operations (MSO) Manager in providing leadership and oversight within distribution services. This Pharmacist Supervisor will have direct oversight of the inventory technician team, pharmacy interns and pharmacists with a primary staffing area within central pharmacy. The Pharmacist Supervisor works closely with system inventory and operations leaders to manage drug shortages, implement formulary changes, identify opportunities to improve efficiency and collaborate on system inventory process improvement initiatives.

This is a Full Time, 40hr per week, benefitted position.

Responsibilities
  • Supervises day-to-day activities of Central-based Pharmacists, Inventory Team Technicians and Pharmacy Interns
  • Serve as a liaison between the Inpatient Pharmacy and Central Supply Pharmacy for inventory and shortage management
  • Participate in Manager On-Call rotation
  • Act as pharmacist-in-charge in the absence of pharmacy managers
  • Pharmacist in Charge:
    The pharmacist responsible for the day-to-day oversight of the operation of the pharmacy. This includes but is not limited to: managing staff, ensuring compliance to all applicable state and federal guidelines, and maintaining the inventory of all medications.
  • Helps to hire, train and evaluate Pharmacy Department staff.
  • Schedules staff and ensures appropriate staff coverage
  • Assists in the development and administration of departmental policies and procedures
  • May prepare and dispense medication orders per physician request by interpreting and evaluating medication orders and transcribe to computerized patient medication profiles. Maintain medication profiles.
  • Ensures safe, appropriate, cost effective medication therapies for Monitors medication therapy by assessment of:
    • Therapeutic appropriateness of the regimen (e.g. indication for use, drug selection, dosage).
    • Therapeutic duplication
    • Appropriateness of the route and method of the regimen
    • Patient compliance with the regimen.
    • Medication/medication, medication/food, medication/laboratory test, and medication/disease interactions
    • Clinical and laboratory data to evaluate the efficacy of therapy and to anticipate toxicity and adverse effects.
    • Physical signs and clinical symptoms relevant to therapy.
  • Detects and reports suspected adverse drug reactions.
  • Sustains the formulary by minimizing non-formulary procurements, utilizing therapeutic substitution protocols, P&T committee approved drug use criteria; and promoting rational drug therapy selection.
  • Provides clinical consultation and clarification to Suggests appropriate, cost-effective therapeutic alternatives to medical staff.
  • Provides accurate, adequate, and timely drug information to the professional staff.
  • Documents all clinical activities and interventions.
  • Participates in quality improvement and medication use review activities of the department.
  • Resolves patient complaints and works with staff to ensure excellent customer service.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned
  • Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy 3 years’ experience as a Pharmacist.
    • Graduate of an ACPE accredited school of Pharmacy with 3 years of health care system experience (of which 1 must be pharmacy supervisory experience), or the equivalent required.
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently and possess the ability to set priorities and make critical decision.
    • Effective problem solving, and change management abilities desired.
    • Effective oral and written communication skills, as well as demonstrated interpersonal and team skills essential.

    Licensure/Certification s
    • Current unrestricted NH Pharmacist licensure.
    • Board Certification in Specialty Pharmacy (CSP) within 3 years of hire in the Specialty Pharmacy.
    • BLS within 30 days of hire in the Retail or Specialty Pharmacy if required to administer immunizations
