Position: Registered Nurse (RN) – Birthing Pavilion

Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center - Lebanon, NH

If you’re passionate about maternity care and want to make a measurable difference for growing families—especially when things get high-acuity, then this role is for you. Our Birthing Pavilion is a 21-room, 24-bed Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP) unit with about 1,300 deliveries each year
. And because 55% of our patients are high-risk through our Maternal Fetal Medicine service, you’ll practice at the top of your license in a setting where skill, teamwork, and calm leadership matter every day. About the Patients and Unit

We care for patients across the full spectrum from antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, normal newborn care, and focused care newborn care all in one cohesive LDRP model. We also serve as a regional resource, receiving transports from all of New Hampshire, Southern Vermont, and occasionally Maine
.

You’ll be supported by a strong, multidisciplinary environment including a robust midwifery service
, a generalist physician service
, and a unit designed for efficient, safe flow complete with a two-bed triage room where we triage all patients.

And when a delivery turns into “all hands on deck,” you’re not on an island: we collaborate closely with the Emergency Department, ICU, CVCCU, and the Main OR to deliver highly specialized care for pregnant and postpartum patients.

What makes this unit different?

Our pavilion includes two dedicated operating rooms
, and every RN is trained in perioperative care including circulating, scribing, and PACU services
. Plus, the ICN/NICU is right next door
, and we work in tight partnership with their team for seamless escalation and newborn support.

Your Role as a Birthing Pavilion RN
  • Provide hands-on nursing care across the full LDRP continuum (antepartum through postpartum)
  • Support high-risk obstetric patients in partnership with Maternal Fetal Medicine
  • Triage patients in our dedicated triage space and respond quickly to clinical changes
  • Deliver safe, evidence-based care during labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum
  • Train and function in OB perioperative workflows (circulator/scribe) and PACU care
  • Collaborate closely with midwives, physicians, NICU, ED/ICU/CVCCU, and OR teams to coordinate care and transitions
Those Who Thrive Here
  • Love a fast-moving environment where both heart and precision are required
  • Stay calm, clear, and confident when the stakes rise (because babies don’t do “business hours”)
  • Enjoy team-based care and strong interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Want broad, high-skill experience LDRP + high-risk + OR/PACU exposure
  • Bring empathy, steady communication, and an “I’ve got you” presence for patients and families
Requirements:
  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensed or eligible in New Hampshire
  • BLS certification required upon hire
  • Fetal Heart Monitoring (Intermediate or Advanced) within 6 months of hire
  • C-EFM accepted in place of FHM
  • New grads/internal transfers: within 1 year
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within 6 months of hire
These are just a few highlights of being a nurse on the Birthing Pavilion at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire.
  • We have loan repayment up to $20,000
  • We offer Relocation Assistance and a Housing Coordinator to help take on the burden of finding a home.
  • We have competitive nursing rates
  • We offer generous tuition reimbursement
  • We have a very popular "earned time" plan
  • We have extensive CEU/Training programs
  • We offer professional development pathways to advance your career
Why are we so unique?

We are a nationally recognized health system in the middle of the White Mountains of New Hampshire. We understand that quality of life means different things to different people, but we are confident you will love it here as we have beautiful, rural, and suburban housing options, world‑class primary, secondary, and graduate schools, hundreds of lakes, thousands of miles of hiking trails, and some of the best skiing in the country.

This means you can be a happy nurse with more quality time with friends, family, pets, or maybe just quiet hikes by yourself. Our idea of traffic is a line at the chair lift on the ski mountain.
