The Upper Valley Haven provides temporary shelter, supportive housing, food, and problem-solving support to those in need. We are seeking compassionate and reliable individuals to join our Seasonal Shelter Staff team at our Lebanon, NH location.
Position Details- Season:
December to April - Shifts:
Evening (4:00 pm – 12:30 am) and Overnight (Midnight – 8:30 am), seven days a week. Full and part-time positions available. - Compensation: $22.00 per hour, plus an additional $1.50 per hour for overnight shifts.
- Benefits:
Accrued paid time off based on hours worked; retention bonus for staff who work through the end of the program in mid-April. Training, regular supervision, and biweekly staff meetings provided for support and development.
Seasonal Shelter Staff play a vital role in supporting guests, facilitating shelter operations, conducting intake paperwork, serving meals, and maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment. Staff work in partnership with first responders, volunteers, and community members to support our guests while upholding the Upper Valley Haven’s values. Staff build positive, supportive relationships and treat all guests with respect and acceptance.
This is an awake position for both shifts, and reliability and punctuality are essential. Each shift will have two staff members on duty. Once trained, staff may also pick up per diem shifts at our year‑round shelters in White River Junction. Successful seasonal staff may be considered for permanent employment.

Key Requirements- Proven reliability and punctuality
- Ability to remain awake for the entire shift
- Willingness to ask questions, seek support, learn new skills, and work as a member of a team
- De‑escalation skills and understanding of trauma, substance misuse, and mental health concerns (a plus)
- Flexibility and adaptability
- Ability to focus on the strengths, skills, interests, and needs of others
- Willingness to perform custodial tasks, nightly laundry, restock supplies, serve food, and occasionally clear and sand snow on paths
- Ability to bend, move about, and lift up to 30 pounds
- Reliable transportation to and from work
