Job SummaryThe Lead Product Engineer is responsible for the implementation and maintenance of innovative, cost‑effective product designs that are properly documented for manufacturing; for the accurate, timely management of assigned projects; and for providing technical expertise that assists in the resolution of production‑related issues.
Job Duties / Responsibilities- Work with production teams and operations staff to coordinate the timing and understand the effects of design changes on production, ensuring floor supervisors have current drawings, production changes and build procedures.
- Perform engineering change notices (ECNs) to drive the resolution of quality issues and assist with the implementation and execution of the ECN process.
- Act as a technical product expert and resource to assist internal teams in resolving escalated product technical and operational issues as well as production, rework and critical technique issues.
- Collaborate with the manufacturing and engineering team to assist with finding cost‑reduction solutions; request reports from the ERP system to aid in costing and design‑change decisions.
- Collaborate with Supplier Development Engineer and vendors on new product launches to assist in supply‑chain readiness, troubleshoot reliability concerns and select new and existing components.
- Serve as a technical expert for field‑campaign information to help Customer Service with repair or update documentation for all affected machines and ensure they are in working order.
- Participate in gate meetings to report on project status, design or specification issues, etc.
- Design, modify, document and implement efficient, cost‑effective, safe and reliable products using CAD software within defined timelines.
- Participate in team meetings to provide status updates, discuss changes and prioritize tasks.
- Collaborate with the Design Engineering team on developing new products, providing insights and ideas for feasibility and manufacturability.
- Collaborate with Production Administration on the use of parts and design changes that affect inventory and ERP system information; utilize the ERP software to set up and revise part numbers and bills of materials.
- Review designs with the Engineering Manager for approval and feedback on alignment with product specifications, cost‑effectiveness, safety and reliability.
- Utilize the Engineering Manager and Director of Engineering as a resource for coaching, guidance and project prioritization.
- Mentor and assign tasks to co‑ops as needed; review and approve co‑op designs for alignment with product specifications, cost‑effectiveness, safety and reliability.
- Participate in maintaining and conducting inventory to ensure an accurate account of parts and supplies.
- Actively participate in engineering‑related continuing education and training; utilize suppliers as educational resources to enhance FECON’s product performance.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Speak with poise and confidence and read, write and speak fluent English; public speaking and presenting skills.
- Advanced problem‑solving, conflict resolution and project‑management skills.
- Own and execute projects for the business, including milestone tracking, design/product iterations and evaluations, financial and business‑case modeling, work delegation and prioritization, supplier coordination and logistical support.
- Demonstrated track record of strong execution against priorities.
