WCI CORRECTION OFFICER – Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (ODRC)

• Maintain control of the institution to provide safety and security of the facility, inmates, staff, and the public by enforcing rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Supervise and direct inmate activity in assigned areas of the facility/institution.
• Ensure the assigned area is clean, safe, and secure.
• Monitor and operate security controls, equipment, and computers.
• Operate automotive vehicles for perimeter security and transportation of inmates.
• Conduct inmate counts, security rounds, and searches.
• Complete required reports and serve on committees.
• Prevent escapes or incidents that threaten security.
• Use physical force, unarmed self‑defense, firearms, or other force when necessary to detain or secure inmates.

• High school diploma or G.E.D. with a valid driver’s license for transportation‑related duties.
• Successful completion of the correction officer assessment within the past 24 months, or current ODRC employee already certified.
• Probationary period of 365 days.
• Strong communication, observational, situational awareness, ethics, and teamwork skills.

Step 1 salary: $24.16 per hour, moving to Step 2 $ 24.86 after 6 months. Additional $0.60 per hour for 2nd or 3rd shift. Full‑time position.
