- Inspect motor vehicles—including motor homes, campers, school buses, church buses, self‑assembled vehicles, and salvage vehicles—to determine whether they are unsafe or improperly equipped, or whether equipment is properly adjusted or repaired as required by law by entering & exiting vehicles, bending, stooping, and utilizing mechanics’ “creeper” to crawl under vehicles to visually check mechanical components.
- Enter and retrieve information using numerous Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) databases.
- Complete inspection forms and affix inspection decals to vehicles that pass.
- Operate state‑owned motor vehicle inspection vehicle to transport equipment used in motor vehicle inspection.
- Inform the owner and/or operator of necessary repairs or adjustments to bring the vehicle to a safe condition.
- 6 months training or 6 months experience in automotive maintenance & repair and/or mechanical vehicle inspections.
- 6 months experience using a personal computer and associated business office applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Formal education in arithmetic (addition & subtraction) and in reading, writing, and speaking common English vocabulary.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Or equivalent minimum class qualifications.
