Dispatcherscould qualify for weekly stipend payments rangingfrom $25 to $125for thosewho are bilingual or becomemembers of specialized units! Dispatchers also qualify for Shift Differential payat $0.50/hour for 2ndshift (2 pm thru 9 pm) and $0.75/hour for 3rdshift (9 pm thru 7 am). ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Receives, records, directs, and transmits messages by radio and telephone, prepares and maintains communication records, greets, and directs public visiting the station by performing the following duties.
- Receives and transmits routine messages pertaining to arrest, accidents, stolen property, motor vehicles, other law enforcement emergencies, complaints and dispatches units as required. Receives radio traffic from units.
- Maintains log on all radio messages received or transmitted as required.
- Provides routine assistance to citizens supplying information or directing them to proper authority.
- Monitors patrol units and keeps accurate information with the location of each unit handling a complaint or traffic violation.
- Assists in the coordination of services as requested by officers (i.e., wreckers, utility crews, etc.)
- Operates TIES, NCIC, and other related computer terminals searching files, updating records, sending, and receiving messages and obtaining information requested by personnel and investigative units.
- Receives and transmits facsimiles and maintains fax machine in working order.
- Other duties as required.
- Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Knowledge of rules and regulations of the Federal Communication Commission and Departmental Rules pertaining to transmitting, receiving, and logging messages.
- Knowledge and ability to operate radio equipment. Knowledge of city streets and areas.
- Ability to speak distinctly.
- Ability to deal effectively with public under trying or stressful conditions.
- Ability to acquire and relay information accurately.
- Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations and to determine the proper course of action.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public and other employees.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence and complete reports.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- HS Diploma or GED required.
- Must possess exceptional verbal and written communication skills, strong computer skills.
- Must be reasonably able to work any hours and days as necessary to cover shift needs.
- Prior telecommunications, dispatch or related experience is a plus.
- Will be required to complete the basic 40-hour telecommunicator course required by the State of Tennessee within 6 months.
- A 4-hour CPR and a 32-hour EMD training and certification is required to be completed within 6 months of hire.
