Walgreens offers an “earn while you learn” Pharmacy Technician Training Program recognized by ASHP & Department of Labor. This apprenticeship program guides you toward becoming a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technician, helping you advance your career with a nationally recognized, portable credential.
Base pay range$17.00/hr - $20.50/hr
Responsibilities- Assist the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy and in the performance of other Pharmacy Department duties in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
- Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, process prescriptions, and coach pharmacy technicians and cashiers on system and register operation if PTCB certified.
- Model and deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience.
- Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services, resolving issues, and answering questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
- Model and share customer service best practices with team members, including greeting, eye contact, courtesy, proactive help, identifying needs, and timely service.
- Develop strong relationships with most valuable customers.
- Assist in the practice of pharmacy under pharmacist supervision, review and comply with the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
- Enter patient and drug information into pharmacy systems, fill prescriptions, verify medication correctness, and check for possible interactions.
- Assist pharmacists in scheduling and maintaining workflow.
- Report prescription errors immediately and adhere to Company policies on pharmacy errors and the Quality Improvement Program.
- Adhere to the Walgreen Co. policy regarding Good Faith Dispensing during all applicable prescription dispensing activities.
- Register all related sales on assigned cash register, collect and handle cash, and guide customers to OTC aisle when possible.
- Handle telephone calls not requiring pharmacist attention, including to physicians.
- Process manual claims for third party program prescription services in a timely manner.
- Assist in inventory management activities (ordering, unpacking, checking, storing pharmaceuticals), file claims for overages or shortages, and maintain knowledge of asset protection techniques.
- Assist pharmacist in administering clinical services (blood/urine sample labeling, coordination of clinical services, Walgreens healthcare clinics).
- Help Pharmacy Manager and staff pharmacist develop relationships with the local medical community and other healthcare providers.
- Maintain department cleanliness and ensure adequate supplies.
- Comply with all company policies and maintain respectful coworker relationships.
- Complete special assignments as assigned.
- Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program or state-required certification. PTCB certification may be a condition of promotion to senior technician.
- Attend training requested by Manager and acquire continuing education credits, maintaining knowledge and skill in healthcare and pharmacy.
- Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English. (Except in Puerto Rico)
- Require willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
- Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment.
- Prefer prior work experience with Walgreens.
- Prefer good math skills for accurate prescription filling (counting, measuring, weighing).
- Prefer good computer skills.
- Prefer knowledge of store inventory control.
- Prefer PTCB certification.
