Weekend Shift Assistant Manager - Shipping/Outbound

The Weekend Shift Assistant Manager assists the Outbound Manager in overseeing the shipping department of the facility within their respective shift, including picking, packing, and indirect positions, focusing on quality, accuracy, and providing excellent customer experience. The role collaborates with leadership on other shifts/departments to ensure compliance with all protocol and SOPs, problem‑solves, and meets operational directives.

Responsibilities Operational
  • Assists with the management of the day‑to‑day operations within the Outbound department, including Picking, Consolidation, Packing, QA, and other indirect roles, ensuring the team consistently achieves high quality, efficiency, and accuracy.
  • Trains, coaches, develops, and holds accountable up to X employees to achieve operational metrics and satisfy the needs of the distribution center.
  • Works closely with the Inbound Manager to monitor daily, weekly, and monthly metrics for the receiving department; identifies and resolves operating issues as needed.
  • Provides clear and frequent communication to all teams regarding company policies and procedures.
  • Leads weekly and monthly meetings with the Outbound Manager to review metrics, discuss areas of improvement, employee relations issues, and updates on initiatives and projects.
  • Assists in analyzing opportunities for improvement including productivity growth, cost reduction, damage mitigation, and increased process efficiency.
People
  • Ensures the timely completion of all employee performance reviews and provides frequent and constructive feedback to all team members in accordance with the Great Employees Only philosophy.
  • Interacts with employees regularly to promote high engagement and ensures all safety regulations are followed.
  • Completes all administrative duties related to employee management to the expected standard promptly.
Leadership
  • Collaborates with the leadership team within the building to meet the needs of the DC and foster a team mentality.
  • Works with the Outbound Manager and Team Leads to create development plans for employees, maintaining engagement and developing a leadership bench.
  • Maintains a high level of integrity and honesty, embodying the core values of the company and modeling them for employees.
  • Serves as a leader not only for the assigned department, but for the entire distribution center, holding peers, managers, and employees accountable to expectations.
Physical Requirements
  • Work is performed while standing and/or walking, up to and including 12 hours/day.
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing.
  • Requires the regular use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
  • Requires regular bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, and reaching.
  • Requires the ability to regularly lift, carry, push, or pull medium weights, up to 75lbs.
Experience
  • Proficiency with MS Office required (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to explain technical and complex concepts in a simple and concise way to ensure ease of understanding.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Ability to quickly adapt as business needs change; ability to address difficult situations with diplomacy and emotional intelligence.
  • Customer service‑oriented attitude with a demonstrated desire to exceed expectations.
  • Ability to work off‑shift as required to respond to urgent needs.
Education

This role does not require a degree. We value relevant skills and experience and alignment with our core values above all else.

Desired Traits & Skills
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in operations leadership.
  • Experience working in a distribution or manufacturing environment preferred.
