Camp Ranger – Boxwell Reservation
- Compensation: $45,000–$50,000 annually (commensurate with experience)
- Residency Requirement: Must reside on camp property
The Camp Ranger is a full-time member of the camping operations team and is responsible for the year‑round management, operation, safety, and maintenance of Boxwell Reservation facilities and property.
This position requires a self‑motivated professional capable of working independently, supervising volunteers and contractors, ensuring regulatory compliance, and upholding the mission and values of Scouting.
The Camp Ranger reports to the Camping Director and supports the Camp Director during summer camp operations. The Ranger serves as an ambassador of goodwill and represents organizational policies and values at all times.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities Leadership and Volunteer Coordination- Supervise, coordinate, and support volunteers and seasonal maintenance staff
- Recruit volunteer labor for camp projects and workdays
- Communicate effectively while enforcing organizational policies and procedures
- Build and maintain positive relationships with staff, volunteers, Scouts, families, neighbors, and community partners
- Maintain all buildings, grounds, and equipment in a safe, clean, and operational condition
- Develop and manage a preventative and proactive maintenance plan using maintenance tracking systems
- Conduct regular inspections and prioritize repairs and corrective actions
- Open and close seasonal water systems
- Maintain swimming pool filtration systems and water quality in compliance with state standards
- Maintain water and wastewater logs, certifications, and required regulatory reports
- Ensure proper trash disposal and overall camp cleanliness
- Maintain tractors, mowers, vehicles, and equipment in safe operating condition
- Perform general repairs and submit estimates for authorized contract work
- Enforce the Guide to Safe Scouting, NCAP standards, and organizational policies
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
- Maintain a safe and healthy camp environment and be knowledgeable of emergency procedures
- Report emergencies and accidents to the Camp Director and senior leadership
- Patrol camp property as needed to prevent trespass, vandalism, and fire hazards
- Support camp operations including group check‑in/out, equipment issuance, and occupancy reporting
- Ensure facilities are prepared and ready for campers and events
- Serve as Maintenance Manager, including janitorial services, and supervise cleanliness staff
- Maintain maintenance schedules, inventories, project records, and weekly activity reports
- Manage petty cash, purchase orders, receipts, and required financial reconciliations
- Submit timesheets, gas usage logs, and required business records on schedule
- Utilize and maintain proficiency in reservation and management systems
- Supervise contractors, vendors, and maintenance employees as assigned
- Conduct or coordinate required OSHA and equipment safety training
- Meet regularly with the Camping Director regarding projects, schedules, and safety issues
- Maintain strong working relationships with the Camping and Properties Committees
- Develop and maintain relationships with local contractors and suppliers
- Represent the organization professionally to visitors, Scouts, volunteers, officials, and community partners
- Maintain good housekeeping at the Ranger residence and throughout camp
- High school diploma or GED required
- Valid driver’s license required
- Prior facilities or maintenance experience required
- Scouting experience preferred but not required
- Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical labor
- Strong organizational, time management, and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Dependable, flexible, and adaptable
- Experience with plumbing, electrical, carpentry, lawn care, automotive maintenance, and tractor operation
