FULL TIME / PART TIME TEACHER OF SCIENCE

Required from September 2026 (an earlier start would be considered for a suitable candidate), M1-UPS3, depending on skills and experience.

We are seeking to appoint a well-qualified and enthusiastic teacher of science to join an innovative, vibrant and supportive department where teachers are committed to developing learning strategies that challenge and interest all of our students. Applications from candidates of all science specialisms are welcome to apply.

The successful candidate will join a thriving science faculty of eight science teachers, each with their specialist science teaching space. The team is well supported and includes a faculty leader, a lead practitioner, and leads for each of the sciences. Uptake of science is popular, and the school typically has two GCSE groups of separate science students each year, and always runs three science A-levels.

The ability to teach post-16 courses would be most welcome.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver science lessons in line with relevant curriculum requirements, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning are maintained.
  • Collaborate with the wider science faculty to sustain and maximise student progress.
  • Participate in professional development and induction to support continuous improvement.

You will possess energy, enthusiasm and the desire to inspire a love of science. You will be responsible for delivering science lessons in line with relevant curriculum requirements, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning are maintained, whilst collaborating with the wider science faculty to sustain and maximise student progress.

We are committed to developing our staff through first‑class induction and high‑quality professional development. As a result, a large proportion of JMHS staff have achieved promotion to middle and senior leadership positions.

JMHS was last inspected by OFSTED in November 2022 who confirmed our good grading and whose comments included :

  • Pupils behave well. They are polite to their teachers and considerate of their peers.
  • Parents rate teachers’ high expectations because they push pupils to do more. Many say teachers go ‘above and beyond’ for their children.
  • Pupils can do unusual stuff at this exciting school.
  • School leaders have constructed a rich and engaging curriculum.

We welcome visits from prospective applicants. If you would like to have a tour of the school, please email Adem Osbourn, our deputy headteacher with responsibility for curriculum, assessment and teaching.

Safeguarding Statement

JMHS is committed to the protection and safety of its pupils and therefore all appointed candidates will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check at Enhanced Level and all shortlisted candidates will be subject to an online Google search.
