Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Accounting Assistant to join a dynamic team within a well-established SME. This role will be responsible for managing various accounting processes, from accounts payable to bank reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in financial operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a proactive approach to problem‑solving.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accounts Payable Management :
    Handle the end‑to‑end process, including housekeeping of the ledger, invoice verification (via OCR), and ensuring accurate posting to Sage.
  • Invoice & Credit Note Processing :
    Raise ad‑hoc sales invoices, approved credit notes, and assist with invoice runs for group companies.
  • Supplier & Purchase Order Management :
    Handle supplier queries and monitor the purchase order system.
  • Credit Control :
    Provide cover during absences, including opening customer accounts, coordinating with credit insurers, and following up on payment promises.
  • Bank & Intercompany Reconciliation :
    Manage reconciliations for group companies, ensuring accurate reporting and handling transfers for payments made to incorrect accounts.
  • Month‑End Assistance :
    Support with month‑end tasks, including posting transactions, reviewing invoices, and preparing financial reports.
  • General Financial Support :
    Manage the accounts mailbox and assist with ad‑hoc tasks as needed.
Key Qualifications
  • AAT Professional Diploma in Accounting or equivalent experience.
Key Skills & Attributes
  • Proficiency in Sage 50 with a minimum of 3 years of experience in an accounting role within an SME environment.
  • Strong Excel skills and a keen eye for detail.
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels, able to work well within a small team.
  • Self‑motivated, reliable, and proactive, with a willingness to contribute beyond the core role when needed.
