Summary

The successful applicant will join the team as an Audit and Accounts Assistant, supporting colleagues with a range of tasks. This is a fantastic opportunity to work within a supportive team, gain exposure to real client work, and build a long-term career in audit and accountancy.

What you'll do at work
  • Prepare draft statutory accounts for filing with Companies House from client's accounting software or manual records
  • Complete relevant year end journals, calculate prepayments, bank reconciliation, accruals, debtors, creditors etc.
  • Liaise with clients to clarify queries and obtain missing or additional information
  • Prepare draft corporation tax computations
  • Produce audit files for review by Manager, answer review points
  • Review clients' records to ensure accounting industry standards are met
  • Support audit teams with fieldwork, working both on-site at client premises and remotely, including travelling to clients' premises to verify assets and complete stocktake observations
  • Communicate effectively with clients to gather financial information and resolve queries
  • Plan time and prioritise tasks to ensure deadlines are met, and work is completed to a high standard and on time
  • File client annual confirmation statements with Companies House
  • Update client engagement letters and prepare letters of representation
  • Develop an understanding of accounting software such as Xero, Sage, and Quick Books
  • Visit the Company's offsite storage facility to file, access and maintain archive records
  • Undertake routine tasks as required by senior members of the team
  • Ad-hoc duties as required
  • Actively participate in training and development sessions and take responsibility for your own learning and progression
  • Be professional and abide by confidentiality, impartiality, and ethical principles at all times

What you'll learn
  • Assist with the investigation and response to financial information queries.
  • Record and analyse financial data using the organisation's standard tools and processes.
  • Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts.
  • Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
  • Reconcile financial data, such as preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
  • Investigate, resolve or escape transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
  • Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
  • Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, including backing up data.
Essential qualifications

GCSE in Maths and English (grade 5 or above (B or above)). A Level in 3 A Levels (grade C or above).
