Head of Distribution Strategy & Sales Governance

Do you have experience building broker propositions? Are you looking to progress your insurance career with a forward‑thinking, people‑driven business? Join Markel as our Head of Distribution Strategy & Sales Governance.
What you’ll be doing:
- Strategy Development: develop and implement broker distribution strategy aligned with Markel’s commercial objectives and growth targets.
- Sales Governance: design and implement governance frameworks to ensure broker sales comply with regulatory, legal and company standards.
- Performance Management: partner with the Head of Strategic Sales to set and monitor KPIs for broker sales teams.
- Regulatory Compliance: act as primary contact for all sales compliance matters and adapt to regulatory changes.
- Broker Relationship Management: build and maintain strong relationships with key broker partners.
- Broker Proposition Development: accountable for continuous improvement.
- Risk Management:
identify, assess and mitigate risks within the broker sales channel. - Training & Development: oversee training programmes for compliance, product knowledge and sales effectiveness.
- Stakeholder Engagement: collaborate with Legal, Compliance, Underwriting, Marketing and Product teams.
- Reporting & Insights: provide updates and actionable insights to senior management.
Our must haves:
- Previous experience in the general insurance industry and with senior leadership of large sophisticated brokers with a UK footprint.
- Distribution experience including strategy, framework development and change implementation.
- Track record of delivery against new business and portfolio growth targets.
- Understanding of project management techniques and stakeholder management.
- High level of competence in using data to manage performance and drive corrective action.
- Excellent presentation skills tailored to audience and outcomes.
- Self‑starting, success‑oriented individuals with initiative and a desire to build a market‑leading business.
- Credible, engaging representative of Markel to cultivate long‑term industry relationships.

Location and work environment:
- Hybrid role with travel to Leeds and London offices; based in Leeds, Manchester or Birmingham.
- Travel required for meetings.
