At Markel, we re building a brand-new Portfolio Management & Pricing function and re looking for a talented Portfolio Analyst to join us at the start of an exciting journey. Working alongside experienced actuaries, underwriters and business leaders, you ll play a key role in delivering the insight, analytics and intelligence that drives smarter underwriting and profitable growth.

This isn t a traditional analyst role hidden away behind spreadsheets. It s an opportunity to work at the heart of the business, solving real commercial challenges, supporting strategic decision-making and helping build a new capability that will have significant influence across Markel UK.

The Portfolio Management & Pricing team has recently been established to help Markel better understand, manage and optimise its insurance portfolio. From pricing models and profitability analysis to new product development and AI-driven innovation, the team is helping shape the future of underwriting across the business. You ll join at a time when processes, reporting and analytical frameworks are still being developed, giving you the opportunity to bring fresh ideas, challenge convention and make a genuine impact from day one.

• Extracting, analysing and interpreting data from multiple sources.
• Supporting portfolio performance and profitability analysis.
• Producing management information and reporting packs.
• Assisting with Quarterly Business Reviews and strategic reporting.
• Supporting pricing model calibration and performance monitoring.
• Creating dashboards and analytical tools.
• Identifying trends, opportunities and emerging risks within the portfolio.
• Working with Underwriters and business stakeholders to support decision-making.
• Exploring how AI, automation and new technologies can improve efficiency and insight generation.

We re looking for someone who is naturally curious, enjoys working with data and wants to build a long-term career in analytics, pricing or portfolio management.

• A degree in a numerical discipline such as Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Engineering, Physics or Data Science.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Advanced Excel capability.
• Experience using SQL, Python, Databricks or similar data tools.
• The ability to manipulate and interpret large datasets.
• Strong communication skills with the confidence to engage with stakeholders.
• A desire to learn, develop and take ownership of your work.

• Experience in an analytical, actuarial, pricing or data-focused role.
• Knowledge of insurance or financial services.
• Experience building reports, dashboards or visualisations.
• An interest in AI, automation and emerging technologies.
• A proactive approach and willingness to challenge existing ways of working.
