Job Summary

Use experience in radio, podcasting and audio storytelling to help prepare and run training sessions with teenagers at Chapel FM Arts Centre in Leeds. We are looking for a part-time, freelancer to join our staff in managing creative audio arts training programmes and projects.

Job Description

The core duties of this position are to:

Assist in facilitating courses and workshops for youth (mostly ages 11 to 18) on how to use broadcasting, radio, podcasts and other media to help people from our community and beyond develop their voices and confidence, share visions for their community and connect with the wider city and world beyond East Leeds.

Work with other members of Chapel FM staff, community participants and other third sector organisations to oversee the creation of radio programmes and podcasts for Chapel FM Radio and help guide the larger mission of the radio station as a community resource, creating spaces for citizen journalism and discussions about the past and future of our community as well as making links with the wider world.

Experience in radio, podcasting or other forms of broadcasting is highly useful, however the core requirements are to be a confident facilitator (or teacher) of arts participation classes and workshops, especially with young people and have a strong interest in the social challenges and aspirations of communities such as ours in Seacroft and wider East Leeds.

ABOUT CHAPEL FM ARTS CENTRE

Chapel FM Arts Centre () is a community arts organisation, part of the larger organisation Heads Together Productions, located in Seacroft, East Leeds. Our work combines participation programmes in the arts and media for young people and adults, a community radio station - Chapel FM Radio, live arts events and collaborative projects done in partnership with a wide variety of other arts and third sector organisations in our local community and beyond.

JOB SCOPE AND SALARY

This post is part-time (likely 1 to 1.5 days per week) and temporary (until March 2027) however there is potential for it to expand to more hours and a longer time frame.

Job Requirements

Create and deliver a lesson plans, taking into account the interests, experience, ages and backgrounds of participants.

Edit audio (although it is not necessary to be familiar with a specific editing tool, that can be learned).

Talk confidently in public, either in-person or on-air.
Implement risk assessments for participants, attend to safe-guarding issues and to communicate with parents and carers of youth participants and vulnerable adults.

Be curious and stay informed about events happening in our community and beyond, especially within the arts and third sector.

Specific formal educational training such as a university degree is not required for this position, although they may be helpful.

Job Responsibilities

JOB PURPOSE

To help plan, deliver and evaluate a creative programme of work at the Chapel FM Arts Centre with a particular focus on facilitating courses and workshops, especially with young people from East Leeds and overseeing the community radio station Chapel FM Radio.

The Youth Radio & Arts Facilitator will work closely with other staff and freelance workers at Chapel FM. This post reports to the Head of Radio.

KEY TASKS

To help develop and deliver a range of creative, skills-based and socially relevant courses and workshops using radio, podcasts and other media with a particular focus on working with young people.
To help with recruiting new youth participants.
To join collaborative projects with other arts and third sector organisations in East Leeds and beyond that use radio or other media to tell unique stories.
To ensure that youth participants are supported and to implement Chapel FM's Safeguarding Policy.
