Job Description & How to Apply Below
We’re looking for an experienced Technical Designer / Design Engineer who can integrate quickly into the studio team on a number of ongoing and upcoming global projects.
What you’ll be doing- Developing and communicating practical, design solutions that support the creative vision of the project and help with the overall translation of concepts from render to reality.
- Building detailed 3D models of structures, assemblies and mechanisms.
- Producing clear drawings and documentation for clients, partners and the wider team.
- Getting drawings ready for manufacture and installation where required.
- Working closely with creative, technical and production teams to keep everything aligned.
- Supporting the build — being on hand to help solve problems on site.
- Designing with manufacture in mind — materials, assembly, fit and finish.
- You’ll report to our Technical Director and work closely with Technical Project Managers and senior members of the studio.
- Solid experience in live events, themed environments, exhibitions, experiential work or performance structures.
- The ability to manage the interplay between art and engineering.
- Comfortable working independently and managing your own priorities.
- Strong, professionally-gained experience in Solid Works / Inventor or a similar 3D CAD package.
- A clear, confident communicator who can work with people at all levels.
- Able to stay organised and calm when things move fast or briefs shift.
- Understanding of how multi-partner projects come together.
- Practical knowledge of manufacturing.
- A good sense of the full design, production and delivery process.
- Willing to travel to site when needed.
- Deeper knowledge of manufacturing materials and techniques.
- Experience managing or working closely with suppliers.
- Confidence presenting to clients.
- Previous freelance or short-contract experience.
- 3 Month fixed-term contract or freelance.
- Applicants must have the right to work in the UK. We are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role.
- £45,000 per annum, pro rata for this 3-month fixed-term contract — or freelance day/month rate by negotiation.
