We are inviting applications to fill our Senior Clinical Fellow vacancy at The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in the Department of Urology. This is a full‑time fixed‑term post for 12 months.

About the role

Candidates must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and hold MRCS at the time of application. Preferably they should hold FRCS(Urol) or an equivalent qualification. The successful candidate will be able to pursue sub‑specialty post‑CCT level training in Pelvic‑oncological Urology.

Main duties of the job DUTIES OF THE POST

To perform clinic duties appropriate to the post, including attendance at outpatient clinics, day‑case and inpatient theatre lists, clinical meetings such as MDTs, and maintenance of appropriate records of treatments, including dictation of clinical notes and letters.

To contribute to the teaching of nursing, undergraduate and junior medical staff.

To contribute to postgraduate teaching.

To perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate Consultant, in consultation with senior and junior colleagues. Junior staff should not be required to undertake work of this nature for prolonged periods or on a regular basis. The specific job plan will be subject to regular review between the appointee and the consultant.

To contribute to a 1:9 On‑Call rota.

Job description Job responsibilities KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

The main purpose of the post is to develop subspecialist skills in pelvic oncology, including robotic surgery for bladder and prostate cancer. At the end of the fellowship, the post holder is expected to achieve knowledge and surgical skills to work independently as a Pelvic Uro‑Oncologist and to support the pelvic oncology team in delivering general urological services in Leeds.

Candidates
  • Must hold FRCS (Urol) or equivalent.
  • Be eligible for full registration with the GMC at appointment and hold a current licence to practice.
  • Have evidence of achievement CCT in Urology or within 6 months of doing so.
  • Be eligible to work in the UK.
  • Have previous experience at registrar level in Urology.
  • Demonstrate the ability to operate effectively under pressure & remain objective in highly emotive/pressurised situations.
  • Be aware of their own limitations & when to ask for help.
  • Have the capacity to communicate effectively & sensitively with others.
  • Be able to discuss treatment options with patients in a way they can understand.
  • Have the capacity to bring a range of approaches to problem solving.
  • Demonstrate effective judgement and decision‑making skills.
  • Have the capacity to work effectively in a multi‑disciplinary team.
  • Have the capacity to establish good working relations with others.
