Senior Clinical Fellow in Trauma & Limb Reconstruction
Candidates are invited to apply for a senior clinical fellowship in Trauma and Limb Reconstruction at Leeds General Infirmary. The post is designed for a mo reexperienced doctor, pursuing a career in orthopaedic surgery, who has an interest in complex trauma and limb reconstruction, including the use of finewire circular fixators.
Applicants must have at least 3 years previous experience in trauma and orthopaedic surgery at ST3 level and above and be post MRCS or equivalent. This post isparticularly suitable for applicants post CCT prior to taking up a definitive consultant post in orthopaedic trauma and/or lower limb reconstruction.
Thepost is to start Monday 6 April 2026 until Friday 31 July 2026.
Theunit has an active academic and teaching programme to which the successful applicant would be expected to contribute.

Main duties of the jobThepost involves working on the Leeds General Infirmary site with the lower limb reconstruction surgeons Mr Simon Britten, Mr Paul Harwood, Mr Patrick Fosterand Mr Martin Taylor.
The post holder will receive advanced clinical and surgical training in lower limb reconstruction using the Ilizarov method. In addition, there will be exposure to other techniques including intramedullarynailing and locked plating, and the Taylor Spatial Frame /other hexapod frames.

In addition, the limb reconstruction team provide a tertiary referral service for initial and definitive management of isolated open and complex trauma as well as post traumatic complications to asimilar population.

Jobresponsibilities
INFORMATION ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Leeds General Infirmary has been acting as the Major Trauma Centre for West and North Yorkshire since April 2013. This has ledto major expansion in available trauma infrastructure including a new major trauma ward and additional trauma / reconstruction operating capacity. Our department provides Trauma and Elective Orthopaedic services to Leeds residents and beyond.
Alllocal trauma patients are admitted to the Leeds General Infirmary. The trauma referral base is from the whole ofthe Yorkshire Region, a population of approximately 3.9 million. With the advent of trauma networks in England, all severe and multiple trauma is transferred to the major trauma centre in Leeds with bypass procedures in place. TARN data has shown us to be consistently withinthe top 3 busiest and most effective major trauma centres in the country.
The unit also provides a tertiary referral service for the management of isolated complex and open fractures as well aspost traumatic complications including infection, non-union and deformity. A regional service is also provided forpelvic and acetabular reconstruction, spine and scoliosis surgery, complex and revision arthroplasty, hand surgery, paediatric surgery, and foot and ankle surgery. The service is well supported by established plastic, vascular and neurosurgical services.
General elective orthopaedic services are currently provided from two sites in Leeds.
Paediatric, hand surgery and spine surgery are provided at Leeds General Infirmary. Complex and revision lowerlimb arthroplasty, upper limb and foot and ankle surgery are provided at Chapel Allerton Hospital.
