Senior Clinical Fellow (ST3+ equivalent) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with interest in Acute Gynaecology / Recurrent miscarriage
Applicants are invited to apply for a post as Senior Clinical Fellow (ST3+ equivalent) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with interest in Acute Gynaecology / Recurrent miscarriage in Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. This is an exciting opportunity to work in afriendly, dynamic, large, teaching acute hospital trust.
Thepost holder will work at a level equivalent to that of a ST3+ trainee.
Applicants must have completed Foundation competencies either as part of the UKFoundation programme or demonstrate equivalent training. Applicants shouldideally have experience at working at a ST3+ level for a minimum of 6 months ideally within the UK. Basic Life Support training is essential.
Candidates will require current and valid GMCregistration
Main duties of the jobTheabove post is suitable for doctors wishing to gain clinical experience at aST3+ level in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
The post offers the successful candidate a wide range of experience inall areas of the specialty. Whilst this post is not recognised for training,the appointee will be supported by a Clinical Supervisor to meet their careerand educational goals.
The post holder will also be encouraged to take partin departmental teaching and quality improvement work.
About usThegynaecology service is predominantly based at St James University Hospital(Chancellor Wing) and includes general, urogynaecological, recurrentmiscarriage, endometrial ablation, fertility control, complex contraception,menopause (based at a nearby GP practice), perineal and ambulatory gynaecology clinics such as hysteroscopy (including outpatient resection), vulval andcolposcopy. Gynaecology theatres and the gynaecology acute treatment unit which includes an ultrasound scan service and outpatient acute gynaecological procedures, are also located here.
Some elective gynaecology work including clinics, day case and overnight theatre andhysteroscopy also takes place at Wharfdale hospital.
Thefertility service is based at Seacroft Hospital.
Thematernity service is based at St James University Hospital (approximately 4,500deliveries per year) and Leeds General Infirmary (approximately 5,200deliveries per year).

Jobresponsibilities
Thepost holder will work on the second on call (ST3+) rota, and as such will takeon the responsibilities associated with this role. The post holder will be supervised by a Consultant during clinical duties whether elective or on calland will be expected to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, demonstratinggood communication skills with all members of the team.
Theweekly timetable will vary from week to week. It will include sessions inantenatal clinic, delivery suite, gynaecology outpatients, gynaecology theatre and the emergency gynaecology assessment unit. These sessions are aimed todiversify the post holders clinical experience, to provide a service and to accommodate the rolling on call rota of long days and night shifts on labourward and the gynaecology acute treatment unit. On call frequency is 1 in 9.
Antenatal clinic The post holder will be expected to:
- Conduct the initial antenatal assessment of women, identify risk factors in the booking history, and consultor refer appropriately under the supervision of a senior registrar or consultant.
- Counsel women adequately about the investigations offered during pregnancy, interpret the results, communicate the significance of abnormal results to the patient and arrange further management if needed.
