Clinical Fellow in Cardiac Electrophysiology
This is a one‑year fellowship for a senior trainee in clinical cardiac electrophysiology, focused on the development and completion of training in simple and complex catheter ablation. It will be based at the West Yorkshire Heart Centre, one of the largest tertiary cardiac centres in the UK, serving a population of over 3 million. The centre has 6 state‑of‑the‑art Cardiac Catheter Laboratories and performs over 1,000 invasive electrophysiology/cardiac ablations and more than 700 implantable device procedures per annum, making it one of the highest volume arrhythmia units in the UK.
Mainduties of the job
As a Clinical Fellow you will provide supervised input into the care of patients with arrhythmia, including those undergoing catheter ablation. Responsibilities include outpatient and inpatient management, catheter ablation procedures, follow‑up, service evolution, governance processes and audit. The role will also involve contributing to research and clinical trials, as well as teaching and providing educational feedback to colleagues and trainees.
About the DepartmentThe department consists of 6 EP Consultants who implant devices and perform a full range of electrophysiological procedures including VT ablation, AF ablation and SVT ablation. The post is fixed‑term for one year (starting September 2026) with the option to extend if mutually agreed.

- Candidate should have achieved competency in Electrophysiology in line with their Speciality training programme at a level approaching or having achieved CCT (or equivalent).
- Candidate must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and hold a licence to practice at the time of application.
- Provide supervised input into the care of patients with arrhythmia including those undergoing catheter ablation.
- Outpatient and inpatient management, catheter ablation procedures and follow‑up.
- Involvement in service evolution, governance processes and audit.
- Contribution to research and clinical trials.
- Teaching and educational support for colleagues and trainees.
- CCT in Cardiology (or evidence in the final year of training) upon taking up post or equivalent qualification
- High level of clinical experience and competence in Cardiology
- Higher specialty training in electrophysiology/catheter ablation
- First operator experience in simple catheter ablation procedures
- Independent performance of simple catheter ablation
- Second operator experience in complex catheter ablation
- BHRS accreditation or equivalent
- Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate for effective medical communication
- Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice
- Eligibility to work in the UK
- Completed all core competencies in cardiology
- Clear ambition to pursue cardiac electrophysiology as a career
- Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors
- Understanding of principles, evidence of enthusiasm or participation, relevance of research undertaken
- Evidence of participation in regular clinical audit/QI
- Research experience / publications / presentations
