Locum Consultant In Paediatric Haematology
Thisis a 10PA locum appointment for a Consultant Paediatric Haematology, with special interests in Malignant Haematology and Stem Cell Transplantation.
Thepost will be based at Leeds General Infirmary.
Weare looking for an enthusiastic haematologist to join the current paediatrichaematology consultants with a focus on malignant haematology and stem celltransplantation.
The successful applicant should possess MB ChB or equivalent qualification andshould be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at thetime of interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories ofdoctors must be on the Specialist Register.
Applicants should have established skills in Paediatric Haematology and its relatedspecialties including malignant haematology and stem cell transplantation. Astrong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a researchinterest is desirable.

Main duties of the jobOBJECTIVES OF THE POST
Toprovide, with consultant & multi-disciplinary colleagues in the paediatrichaematology and oncology team, an emergency and elective regional service for children and young people with haematological disorders, with particularresponsibility for leukaemia and haematopoietic stem cell transplant.
Toshare on-call responsibility with the other consultants in the paediatrichaematology and oncology team. This comprises an attending on call for thewhole service and also a commitment to the non-malignant haematology telephoneadvice on call rota if appropriately trained. If the appointee is trainedappropriately to join the non-malignant haematology rota for telephone advice,then their attending on call commitment will be reduced.
Toprovide advice and support to the other paediatric specialists in Leeds Childrens Hospital and to those caring for children and young people in otherhospitals who refer to Leeds.
To participate in the multi-professional paediatric clinical governanceprogrammes, and clinical management meetings.
To participate in education, supervision and training of junior medical staff.
To participate in the active departmental research programme and/or develop appropriate research interests that will benefit the service.
To be responsible for the day-to-day care of the pediatric and young adult haematology inpatients with haematologicaldisorders, including leukaemia and those undergoing stem cell transplant.

3.1General Training and Qualifications
Theappointee must hold MB ChB or equivalent qualification and have completedhigher specialist training (or equivalent) if currently in a training programmewithin the UK.
Applicants must be on the Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted tothe Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK orhave references which have been authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director.
Applicants must provide information regarding their status from the GMC and/or relevant
Royal College at the time of application, in order for their application to beprogressed further.
Experience
Theappointee must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of Paediatric Haematology and in particular Stem Cell Transplantation. It is desirable that the candidates have experience in the conduct of clinical trials.

Theappointee will be expected to contribute and, where appropriate, take the leadin the following:
- Mortalityand morbidity meetings;
- Development and application of agreed clinical guidelines.
