Overview
This is a 10 PA locum appointment for a Locum Consultant Paediatric Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon. This post will be available from April for a period of 12 months. This post will deliver 10 PAs supporting the Paediatric Trauma & Orthopaedic team (Mr Davies, Ms Deriu, Miss Fishlock, Mr Foster, Mr Holton & Mr Sabouni). The post will be based at Leeds General Infirmary.
There may be opportunity to provide an outreach service as part of the hub and spoke model in place across West Yorkshire. The successful applicant should hold FRCS (Trauma & Orth) or equivalent qualification and should be on the Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK, or have references which have been authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director.
Applicants should have established skills in General Paediatric Trauma & Orthopaedics. Excellent communication and team working skills, a strong commitment to teaching and service development are essential. Main duties of the job
- The post-holder will provide a key role in developing and delivering the paediatric orthopaedic service, improving outcomes for our patients.
- Join a dedicated, consultant-led, multidisciplinary team working closely with general Trauma and Orthopaedic and Major Trauma Centre surgeons to provide excellent patient care.
- Support Leeds as a hub for Yorkshire, contributing to the alignment of patient services within the well-equipped children’s hospital.
- Provide support to the Paediatric Trauma and Orthopaedics team to ensure ongoing high standards of care for trauma and elective patients.

The job plan review will take place annually, normally with the Clinical Director or Lead Clinician for Paediatric Trauma & Orthopaedics. The annual job plan review may result in a revised job plan. There may be an interim review if duties, responsibilities, or objectives have changed or need to change significantly within the area.
Proposed Job Plan
The post consists of 10 PAs with 8.5 PAs of direct clinical care (DCC) and 1.5 PAs of supporting professional activity (SPA).
The post will initially be appointed to provide a service at Leeds General Infirmary with potential to develop paediatric trauma and orthopaedic elective clinics within the hub and spoke model at one of the District General Hospitals within West Yorkshire.

Person SpecificationEligibility, Fitness to practice, and Language Skills
- Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
- Should have completed a recognised training programme in trauma & orthopaedic surgery
- At least 2 years higher training in a recognised Paediatric Trauma & Orthopaedic Fellowship programme
Qualifications
- MB BS (or equivalent)
- FRCS (Trauma & Orth) or equivalent qualification
Desirable
- Higher degree e.g. MD/PhD relevant to the subspecialty
Experience
- Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in the management of acute paediatric trauma surgical conditions
- Specifically, the role requires demonstrated skills and clinical experience in General Paediatric Trauma & Orthopaedics
- Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances.
Clinical, Academic, and Personal Skills
- Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research.
- Strong written and spoken English to enable effective communication with patients and colleagues
- Experience of participation in regular clinical audit
- Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors
