Overview

Thisis a 10 PA locum appointment for a Consultant Paediatrician. This post is available immediately, for a 6-month period.

The post will deliver 10 PAs supporting the General Paediatric team and will be based at Leeds Children’s Hospital, Leeds General Infirmary.

Applicants should hold accreditation in Paediatrics in the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health or equivalent, and should be on the Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK, or have references which have been authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director.

Applicants should have established skills in General Paediatrics. Excellent communication and team working skills, and a strong commitment to teaching and service development are essential.

Main duties of the job
  • Deliver care to patients with common paediatric illnesses at the Leeds Children’s Hospital.
  • Contribute to Specialist Multi-disciplinary team meetings.
  • Link with Consultant colleagues in relevant site specialist teams within the Children’s Hospital.
  • Work with colleagues in general paediatrics to deliver acute ward services and provide support for resident doctors.
  • Contribute to research, teaching and new developments within the Children’s Hospital; be encouraged to facilitate and contribute to current clinical research programmes.
  • Contribute to the Consultant‑led triage of acute GP referrals to the CAT unit, provide e‑mail advice to GPs, triage all elective referrals to the service and participate in the provision of community GP hubs.
  • Work with the safeguarding/child protection team and partners in other agencies to conduct safeguarding assessments.

Qualifications
  • MB BS (or equivalent) Membership Examination of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health or equivalent qualification.
Experience
  • Completed a recognised training programme in General Paediatrics.
  • High level of clinical experience and competence in General Paediatrics.
  • Evidence of continuous career progression.
Eligibility, Fitness to practice and Language Skills
  • Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
  • Fit to practise safely.
  • Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues.
Clinical, Academic and Personal Skills
  • Ability to carry out medical research.
  • Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors.
  • Experience of participating in regular clinical audit.
  • Previous experience supervising research by junior staff.
