Role Overview
We have an exciting opportunity at Leeds Teaching Hospitals – a 12‑month Trust Grade Doctor (Level ST3+) post within the second largest Major Trauma Centre in the UK, based at the Leeds General Infirmary. The position starts on 1 May 2026 and is open only for 12 months.
The posts are designed for experienced doctors wishing to pursue a career in Trauma and Orthopaedics. Candidates will work with a team of surgeons to provide inpatient care for both trauma and elective patients, support FY1/2 and ST1/2 doctors, and participate in departmental teaching, research, and audit.
Key Responsibilities- Fracture Clinics
- Trauma and elective orthopaedic surgery
- Weekend hip lists
- Ward rounds and patient reviews
- Support to FY1/2 and ST1/2 doctors
- Full in‑house educational, clinical supervision, and mentoring package
- Participation in on‑going departmental research and audit presentations
- Opportunities to teach undergraduates
- Access to clinical governance meetings
The post holder will be on a 24‑hour partial shift and will have on‑call commitments across the Leeds General Infirmary and Chapel Allerton Hospital.
Qualifications and ExperienceApplicants must have:
- Full GMC registration and licence to practice
- Minimum of two years previous experience in trauma and orthopaedic surgery
- Minimum of 12 months experience as a doctor in the NHS
- Valid ATLS certification
- Full MRCS or equivalent
- Experience as a registrar is desirable
- ECDL
- DOrth
- ALS
- Plastic Surgery/Neurosurgery background
- Previous registrar experience in the UK
The role is available full‑time, but candidates who wish to work part‑time, job‑share, or prefer shorter duration contracts are encouraged to apply. Deferred appointments may be offered.

About Leeds Teaching HospitalsLeeds Teaching Hospitals is a leading healthcare institution providing Trauma and Orthopaedic services from two sites within Leeds. All trauma is admitted to the Leeds General Infirmary and elective work is undertaken at Chapel Allerton Hospital, approximately 3 miles from the Infirmary. The Trust Grade Doctor will be expected to work at both sites.
