An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Yorkshire trainee paediatrician (ST5 or above) with an interest in leadership and management to join Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, Childrens Hospital asthe Chief Paediatric Registrar.
The Chief Paediatric Registrar role builds on the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) programme already running in the Trust. It will provide higher specialty trainees with the opportunity to develop valuable skills in leadership and management and gives them 40% protected time to put these skills into practice by developing initiatives that address local challenges.
Chief Registrars have a tangible impact on service improvement, workforce transformation, engagement and morale, and education and training, and work todeliver better outcomes for patients, colleagues and organisations, supporting to build a profile that marks them out as a future clinical leader.
This is a fixed-term role for 12 months to commence
September 2024. The role can be undertaken in programme or out of programme(training or experience). Due to the 40% leadership commitment, this post will extend the trainees completion of training (CCT) date and this should be discussed with the trainees educational supervisor and training programmedirector. The Chief Paediatric Registrar will receive support locally in the Trust from amentor/supervisor who is a senior clinical leader. The Chief Paediatric Registrar will be able to attend a bespoke development programme provided bythe RCP, which runs from September 2026 to June 2027 and comprises five 2-day modules. With agreement, the Chief Paediatric Registrar will be offered a rangeof formal and informal development in the Trust.
Thispost will be two days leadership and management with the remainder of thesuccessful applicants time being clinical, including contribution to theon-call rota. The Chief Paediatric Registrar post is compatible with all the rotations at Leeds Childrens Hospital and adaptation to the rota will occur sothat the trainee is able to have two days of their time dedicated to their leadership and management role.

About usThe Leeds Childrens Hospital has an annual budget of £103 million, inpatient bedbase of 286 beds, and delivers 102,000 outpatient appointments and 20,000inpatient and day case episodes. The majority of which is on the Leeds General Infirmary site, however there is a Neonatal unit based on the St James Hospital site. The Leeds Childrens Hospital employs a total of 116 consultants providing general, specialist and supra-regional childrens medical and surgical services.
Inpatient, day case and outpatient services are mainly provided at the LGI.
