Job Title
Locum Consultant in Paediatrics – Leeds Children's Hospital
Role Overview10 PA locum appointment for a Consultant Paediatrician, immediately available for a 6‑month period, based at Leeds Children’s Hospital within the Leeds General Infirmary. The post will deliver 10 PAs supporting the General Paediatric team.
Main Duties of the Job- Deliver care to patients with common paediatric illnesses at Leeds Children’s Hospital
- Out‑patient clinics
- Supervision of patients
- Care of in‑patients
- Contribute to Specialist Multi‑disciplinary team meetings
- Link with Consultant colleagues in other relevant site specialist teams within the Childrens Hospital
- Work with colleagues in general paediatrics to deliver acute ward services and provide support for resident doctors
- Contribute to research, teaching and new developments within the Childrens Hospital; facilitate and contribute to current clinical research programmes
- Contribute to Consultant‑led triage of acute GP referrals to the CAT unit, providing e‑mail advice to GPs, triage of all elective referrals to the service and participating in the provision of community GP hubs
- Work with the safeguarding/child protection team and partners in other agencies to conduct safeguarding assessments
- Accreditation in Paediatrics in the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, or equivalent, and on the Specialist Register or within six months of admission to the Register
- High level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of General Paediatrics; desirable experience in conducting clinical trials
- Eligible for full registration with the GMC at the time of appointment, current licence to practice, and eligibility to work in the UK
- Demonstrated skills in written and spoken English adequate for effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues
- Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research
- Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors, and participation in regular clinical audit
- Experience supervising research by junior staff (Desirable)
Essential
- MBBS (or equivalent), membership examination of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health or equivalent qualification.
- Completed a recognised training programme in General Paediatrics.
- High level of clinical experience and competence in General Paediatrics.
- Continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances.
- Full GMC registration with current licence to practice.
- Eligibility to work in the UK and fit to practise safely.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
- Evidence of medical research conduct.
- Experience teaching undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors.
- Participation in regular clinical audit.
Desirable
- Previous experience supervising research by junior staff.
