Global Fellow in Emergency Medicine and Major Trauma

The Leeds Emergency Medicine Departments offer 12‑month Clinical Fellowships designed to provide individually tailored experience and training for those who want to develop a special interest in Emergency Medicine.

Posts are available from August 2026 onwards.

• Work 80/20 clinical to non‑clinical split, delivering care within the Emergency Departments at the Leeds General Infirmary and St James University Hospital.
• Develop and lead new services supporting wider emergency needs in Leeds, including education, simulation, ultrasound, digital transformation and trauma care.
• Participate in a monthly teaching programme led by a named Educational Supervisor.
• Contribute to the department’s education, governance and research programmes.
• Engage in clinical and non‑clinical duties, including audit, quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
• Collaborate with multi‑professional teams and supervise junior medical staff.

• Full registration with the GMC and a valid licence to practice.
• 36 months experience post‑full GMC registration, including foundation competencies, with evidence of clinical care, patient safety, teamwork and integrity.
• Preferred completion of MCEM/FRCEM Intermediate or equivalent, and working towards FRCEM.
• Experience in Anaesthesia/Critical Care Medicine or major trauma management, including procedural competencies (e.g., intercostal drain insertion, arterial cannulation, central venous cannulation).
• Advanced Life Support and Advanced Trauma Life Support certificates.
• Excellent written and spoken English; IELTS score of ≥7.5 or equivalent evidence.

• Effective communication, clarity in written and spoken form, ability to build rapport and persuade.
• Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making with an analytical approach.
• Empathy, sensitivity, respect for all patients and colleagues.
• Leadership skills, organisational and planning ability, ability to motivate teams.
• Proactive involvement in audit, quality improvement, teaching and research.
